Israeli sources write that the country's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to dismiss Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The Jerusalem Post reports that the most likely successor to Gallant as head of the Israeli military department is Israel Katz. He has held the post of head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry since the beginning of this year. Before that, Katz managed to hold the post of Minister of Finance, also the post of head of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, head of the Israeli Ministry of Transport, Minister of Intelligence, head of the Ministry of Agriculture and once again Minister of Foreign Affairs - in 2019-2020. One can imagine how many memes of this kind of "versatility" would cause if someone in our country held so many posts at the head of a variety of ministries.
Netanyahu's office confirms that Yoav Gallant has been dismissed. Guided by the principles of Israeli ministerial multidisciplinaryism, there are many options for the departments that Gallant could head. The same Ministry of Agriculture or the Ministry of Transport...
Meanwhile, experts in Israel are putting forward versions of why Netanyahu decided to remove Gallant from his post. One version is connected with the scandal over the leak of classified information about Israel's preparations for a strike on Iranian targets. It is assumed that this leak caused the anger of the prime minister and led to Gallant losing his defense minister's portfolio. Another version is the stalled operation of Israeli troops in Lebanon.
