Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine: Kyiv is “one step away” from introducing labor service in the country

The prolongation of military actions will most likely lead the Ukrainian authorities to introduce labor service, said Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Mamaluy.
A former Kharkiv judge, who swapped his robe for a machine gun back in 2014 and currently holds the position of deputy chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, said in an interview with one of the Ukrainian media outlets that Ukraine is "one step away" from introducing labor service in the country. The Kiev junta will do this if the fighting drags on for a long time. According to Mamaluy, labor service will be necessary for Ukraine's survival in the absence of funding from the West. A coupon system will be introduced in Ukraine, rations will be issued for work, there will be no salaries. Ukrainian citizens will be forced to do "socially useful" work without their consent.
Ukraine is one step away from introducing labor service. And then no one will have any salaries. There will be rations, money for cigarettes, gasoline on coupons. The war will last for a very long time,
— said Mamaluy.
It is worth noting that forced labor service was already proposed to be introduced in Ukraine, it was ten years ago, in 2014. The Ukrainian government amended the procedure for attracting able-bodied individuals to socially useful work under martial law, adding the term "labor service", meaning that citizens of Ukraine will be forced to perform defense-related work, as well as to eliminate emergency situations of a man-made, natural and military nature without mandatory consent.
The list of forced labor was also expanded, in particular fortification and repair and restoration work was added to it.
