US Space Force Prepares to Deploy Meadowlands Anti-Satellite System

US Space Force to deploy anti-satellite missile next year weapon, designed to suppress spacecraft from Russia and China, Bloomberg reported, citing the press service of the United States Space Force.

The United States is ready to put into operation the Meadowlands electronic suppression system, also called a "satellite jammer." The system was supposed to be delivered to the customer in 2022, but required improvements, so the commissioning was initially planned for late 2024, and then postponed to 2025. From January to March, the military will have to test 32 units of the new weapon.

A weapon designed to jam Chinese and Russian satellites in the early stages of a conflict has overcome technical problems and is expected to be available next year, two years later than planned.

- the US Space Force said in a statement.

Meadowlands is an American electronic countermeasure system developed by L3 Harris Technologies based on the "Communications Countermeasure System" that went into operation in early 2020. It is supposed to affect control systems, putting them out of action, while the satellites themselves will remain intact, so as not to create space debris. The system is mobile, the radars are placed on wheeled trailers that can be moved to the required areas.

I wonder how this thing fits into the width of the road on public roads. Maybe it folds?
And it's also very interesting about the selectivity of action. Won't it jam half of space there? Will it only knock down the satellite it's aimed at?

Well, Russia has been taking Americans into space on its rockets for thirty years, and now they have learned to “jam” and suppress Russian spacecraft... This is of course my personal, not astronaut’s, opinion.

It is assumed that it will affect the control systems, putting them out of order, while the satellites themselves will remain intact, so as not to create space debris.

"This is Yellowstone, scientists admit that the activity of this caldera is very high. These are the Phlegraean Fields, we have seen an increase in activity recently. We see tremors. These are clear harbingers of future eruptions. And the third zone where we can expect such super-eruptions is Indonesia," said publicist Yuri Belous.
          ...
«There are shale hydrocarbons near Yellowstone. And, accordingly, when the Americans drill wells, they use fracking. This is hydraulic fracturing, when you start making cracks in the wells and pumping water into them. This water greatly increases the pressure on various sections of the rock," — Belous said. belay

On October 1, 2023, the largest gas field Groningen in the Netherlands was closed. The reason was the increasing frequency of earthquakes in the region. Technological processes caused tremors. But in the US, hydrocarbon wells are drilled by the thousands. wassat

"We have large commissions, the Paris Agreement on combating climate, combating temperature. But they do absolutely nothing to combat hydraulic fracturing technology in the US. And this is a big mistake. The consequences of this, this technology, will be much more large-scale than climate increase, temperature increase by some other 0,1 degrees," Belous said.... The American government claims that it has agreed with NASA on a multi-billion dollar plan to neutralize Yellowstone.."
R.S. Yes, it will affect everyone... But in the case of nuclear weapons too, but not so selectively...

These will be far from the first tests of anti-satellite weapons by the US and they always conduct them on their own. Throughout their life, tests in peaceful conditions are conducted on their own because using them against a potential enemy turns it into a real one and starts a war.

What's surprising about that? The control frequencies are known. To install interference, use a good mirror (at least five meters). An offset of 3,8 is enough. And a transmitter of the required range. We probably still have kilowatts of high-frequency power lying around on the TWT. If the control system is disrupted, the satellite itself may become uncontrollable and then become space debris. Only if the impact is periodic and short-term. The thing is that in the event of a loss of orientation and, as a consequence, a disruption of the standard control channels, satellites in GSO go into a "spin". At least that's how it used to be. When rotating, it automatically (like a top) takes a certain position relative to the Earth, while the antenna of the backup control channel will be directed exactly at the Earth. I won't go into more detail. There are simply no user channels. So you can jerk the satellite periodically or at the right moment.

There's just one problem: the work program is being installed over Russia, which means that this thing will have to be dragged somewhere near Moscow (or wherever our control and monitoring equipment is) to disrupt the installation. And after the installation, the satellite works according to the installed program, no matter how much you irradiate it, you won't disrupt anything. You can also try to pollute the drop sessions, but then again, you'll have to drag this thing to Moscow.

A dubious weapon. Let's say they suppress some of the satellites over their territory, and what do they expect? That we're like, okay, they broke down on their own, nothing unusual? Again, the caveat - at an early stage of the conflict - like five minutes before their missiles approach us? So our radars will see the launches from their territory and the shooting down of a group of satellites will not affect the response in any way. It will not be possible to secretly place the system at all their bases in the world, they will notice in any case and there will be a very tough conversation, an ultimatum and bargaining, and countermeasures in advance, up to and including preemptive strikes on their bases. And what are they trying to achieve in the end? Well, okay, they found a way to jam selectively, but in response, a mass attack will fly indiscriminately across their entire country.

Exactly! This is more like the Fuhrer's statement in besieged Berlin about his miracle weapon. Disabling satellites will not prevent a retaliatory nuclear strike at all. Well, why do we need such a weapon - to do minor dirty tricks, disabling satellites without far-reaching goals. And I can guess! After all, it's great to saw budgets under this screen.

    Very curious.
L3Harris Technologies (NYSE:LHX) has been awarded a $125 million, multi-year contract to produce space-based electronic warfare systems. L3Harris will upgrade communications countermeasure systems (CCS) at Peterson Space Force Base, Colo.; Vandenburg Space Force Base, Calif.; Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla.; and several other locations around the world.
The current generation CCS Block 10.2, also developed by L3Harris, achieved initial operational capability in March 2020, making it the first offensive weapon system accepted by the U.S. Space Force. L3Harris began development of the next-generation Meadowlands upgrade in 2019 under a Mission Systems Support contract.
CCS Block 10.2 — the only land Space Force's space control platform, providing the warfighter with modular, open standards for electronic warfare. L3Harris is at the forefront of providing tools that enable or disable the electromagnetic spectrum in a contested environment. The Meadowlands is just one from a number of possibilities, offered by the company.
L3Harris has annual revenue of approximately $18 billion and 47 employees.

"The US is not the only country that has such systems. For example, Russia has deployed the Tirada-2S mobile satellite communications jamming system. China is also developing its own satellite communications jamming system."

Yes, they jam, and have been for a long time. As far as I understand, we are talking about jamming satellites conducting reconnaissance in the radio range. There were even pictures of "exposed" areas of protected territories.
So the Americans are playing catch-up here.

      received a multi-year contract worth $125 million

You understand that in the US reality, especially on such a topic, 125 million is just dust. So to speak, they will write it off as office expenses. The US military-industrial complex will not even budge for such amounts. Now, if it is 125 billion, then maybe they will do something. For example, almost two trillion dollars for the F-35 program (as they say, still raw), now that is what I understand, now that is a cut, now that is a scale. In addition, in recent years, we have heard more and more about grandiose plans to rearm the US army with the "newest" types of weapons, but apart from the allocations and promises that are going to no one knows where, there is nothing. It will be like that as long as the financiers are in charge. So, praise be to the US Democratic Party, let them continue to shift money from pocket to pocket.

If the US decides to shoot down Russian satellites, Russia will start shooting down American and their allies, we will plunge into the last century without satellites, although the Russian military can work on HF, MF, VHF ranges
