Czech Republic decides to return ambassador to Moscow

The Czech Republic has decided to return its ambassador to Moscow; the new head of the diplomatic mission has already been approved by Russia and will soon begin performing his duties. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic.

Relations between Russia and the Czech Republic deteriorated in 2021 after Prague accused Moscow of involvement in the 2014 explosions at the Vrbětice ammunition depot. The parties then exchanged notes of protest, the Czech Republic expelled 18 Russian diplomats allegedly linked to intelligence, and Russia sent home 20 Czech diplomatic workers. The Czech ambassador Vítězslav Pivoňka remained in Moscow, but in 2022 he left for Prague, from where he continued to perform his duties, but was finally recalled in May of this year.

In Prague, they thought for a long time about whether to return the ambassador to Moscow, but President Petr Pavel decided that it was necessary to have a full diplomatic representation in Russia, especially since the Czech Republic’s main NATO allies had not recalled their ambassadors.

Key countries that are strategic allies of the Czech Republic – such as Great Britain, France, Germany, Poland and the United States – have ambassadors in Russia.

- stated the head of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jan Lipavsky.

Daniel Koštoval, an experienced diplomat who previously held the post of Deputy Minister of Defense, has been appointed the new Czech Ambassador to Russia. His candidacy has been agreed upon with the Russian Foreign Ministry. He will arrive in Moscow at the beginning of 2025.

      Let it be.
Maybe you'll be able to go to Prague and have some beer, I recommend it.
And so the usual Road story (C): I don’t remember evil, I’ll take him again... Vysotsky, if anything.)

I have never seen my father kissing anyone. His relative gave me a separate mug when I was visiting their family. In India, it is generally accepted to eat food not prepared by your relatives only after heat treatment. So Prague pubs are simply a breeding ground for infection.

Most likely, it is connected with the climate. It is hot in India, all food spoils quickly, that is understandable.

Of course... they just have a reactive position, they can't do anything themselves. They took the ambassador, they returned the ambassador, and ours are mu-mu as usual. There is nothing for the ambassador of a country that is super actively helping our enemy to do here. What good does this do us?
When they improve, then we can think about returning the ambassador, that's what the country would do with respect for itself. Everything is as usual with us.

The Czechs recalled their ambassador in a completely boorish manner. In the hope that all NATO countries would behave the same way. But it didn't work out. No one supported it.
And now what? They brought back the ambassador and didn't even apologize? And our Foreign Ministry accepted him? Of course, I'm not a diplomat, I could be wrong, but in my opinion, the return of the ambassador in this way, without admitting his mistake and without apologizing to us, is another insult to our country.

Complete nonsense. Diplomats are always needed. There have been cases when two warring parties had each other's diplomatic missions operating.
Diplomacy is needed to get your point across. Where does the Czech government learn about our point of view and the real state of affairs? From the media? No way. Ambassadors are also needed to show when we are very unhappy with some actions. The ambassador is called and a protest note is handed over with a detailed explanation of where they screwed up.

Yes. Modern Russian diplomacy is rock bottom. It is stuck between the 19th and 20th centuries. As the comrade below correctly wrote, in the 21st century all the mechanisms of interaction have become very different. This needs to be studied, systematized and applied, and not trying to attack with cavalry in a drone war.

To communicate with people you need:
              - NGOs of humanitarian persuasion are Russophile on their territory
              - a conditional "Pushkin University" in which Czechs would learn Russian and become imbued with Russian culture
              - inbound tourism to Russia and outbound tourism to the Czech Republic
              - training their students in Russia, not for free, for good money of course. Free only for the very talented
              - joint media projects such as music festivals and so on (not to be confused with pilaf festivals)
What does their ambassador have to do with it? Or do you think he can be persuaded to do all this? Of course not, this must be done without paying attention to the presence/absence of ambassadors.

So the conversation is not about the size of the territory, but about the foreign policy position taken in relation to our country and the sanity of the political course. Hungary can be cited as an example in this regard thanks to Viktor Orban, who, despite the pressure of his "partners" in the European Union, takes a sensible and sane position. And the Vatican, for example, has not been noticed in the supply of weapons and the financing of this Sabbath of madmen. As for the people of the Czech Republic, there are no questions for them, for the people. However, he will resolve issues with his leadership himself, these are the internal affairs of an independent state. It was probably not the people who recalled the ambassador, and it was not us who expelled him, what claims can there be.

It's all wrong... your logic is on the level of the Soviet party committee. There must be a utilitarian function, the Czech ambassador simply doesn't have one here.
The country's reputation is more important than the opportunity to wag tongues. As for communicating a position, this argument is generally, well, let's say, so official that it can't get any further. Before this, there were all the Western ambassadors, and how did we communicate our position to them?
They know our position better than you and me, and they also know who is who in the State Duma and in what positions.
To show that some actions do not suit us, we need not an ambassador, we need the absence of an ambassador. And his return here when their actions begin to suit us.

In general, all this chatter is of the same rank as "we should be PACE to convey our position." 10 years after it became clear that this was just a pointless dead end and a waste of money - the delegation was finally taken away from there and it was recognized at the state level that it was useless to sit there. And as it turned out - exactly zero changed, only minus the expenses.
This is not the 19th century or the 15th, the times are different and the approaches should be different, modern.
Including the system of our Foreign Ministry, to put it mildly, is outdated and extremely ineffective.

Russia and Georgia were in 2008 warring parties? There were. The conflict began on 08.08.08. Our ambassador was "asked to leave Georgia" on 29.08.08. Complete rupture of diplomatic relations - 02.09.08.
What's wrong? Or do you have some other logic? Why do you insist without evidence?

It's funny - they were talking about warring countries, but the example is about conflicting countries.

Soviet diplomats were not expelled from Japan in 1945. During the landing in Tokyo, American naval intelligence, having met Soviet diplomats in uniform, reported to the top that the Russians had invaded Japan before the US. The difference between a conflict and a war is vague. The losses of the Germans in Poland in 1939 and the Japanese in the same year at Khalkhin Gol were approximately the same.

In the chaos of that time, when the capitulation was about to happen, the Japanese didn't keep an eye on it, so it's not an example.

Summoning an ambassador to your country is a serious demarche in diplomacy. It usually means that the ambassador's country does not agree with the current policy of the host country. Recalling an ambassador means a de facto lowering of the level of diplomatic relations, although this is not officially declared, a kind of "final warning".
I think that this fact should be consolidated and not accept the Czech's credentials, let him go back. The Czech Republic is not a country that is worth being soft-spoken with, even for the opportunity to go and see pissing giants and drink Czech beer, which has not been the same for a long time.
In general, our Foreign Ministry is very liberal in its attitude towards European dwarfs in terms of lowering the level of diplomatic relations. There is no benefit to Russia, except harm, from the embassies of these vassals, and let the Westerners drink Pilsner and chew sprats at their own risk.
I believe that relations with Eastern and Baltic Europe must be severed to hell and back, without waiting for peritonitis.
I foresee a counter-narrative about the Suwalki Corridor, non-citizens, etc. I believe that everything can be resolved without harming Russia's prestige, but that's another story.

In Prague they thought for a long time about whether to return the ambassador to Moscow, but President Petr Pavel decided that it was necessary to have a full diplomatic representation in Russia

The head of the Czech Republic himself is a former general of his country, a real soldier. And he appointed the same soldier as the ambassador to Russia:
Daniel Kostoval, an experienced diplomat who previously held the post of Deputy Minister of Defense, has been appointed the new Czech Ambassador to Russia.

What kind of policy relations between the two countries - Russia and the Czech Republic - will there be, only God or the devil knows.
