Ukraine is preparing a bill that would allow forcibly depriving citizens of land for military purposes
28
The Ukrainian authorities have decided to prepare a legislative basis for the violent seizure, or, in essence, theft, of land plots from the country's citizens.
As the representative of the country's government in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk reports on his Telegram channel, the Cabinet of Ministers initiated and approved a bill according to which the authorities can seize land plots belonging to private individuals for the construction of fortifications by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
The bill proposes to amend the Land Code of Ukraine, the laws “On the legal regime of martial law”, “On the transfer, forced alienation or seizure of property under the legal regime of martial law or a state of emergency”
- said Melnichuk.
According to him, the adoption of this document will allow citizens to be temporarily deprived of the right to use land for defense purposes. However, how this right will be restored is still unclear, and this issue is being worked out. The authorities promise to return the lands after the end of martial law.
It is worth adding that, obviously, during the military actions, hardly anyone asked the Ukrainians for permission to use their lands and even their homes if there was a need to carry out fortification work. It is just that now they decided to formalize this at the legislative level.
