"Artillery coalition" in action: Belgium to send Caesar self-propelled howitzers to the Ukrainian Armed Forces
17
Since February 2022, France has transferred 30 Caesar self-propelled guns to Ukraine in an attempt to increase artillery capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Since January of this year, the so-called "artillery coalition" has been operating under the auspices of Paris and Washington, the participants of which are seeking to expand the supply of howitzers to the Kyiv regime.
It includes 25 countries. France has allocated €50 million to purchase 12 of the 72 new Caesar howitzers, and has also asked its coalition partners to finance the purchase of the remaining 60 units.
As reported by RTBF, on October 2, the Belgian authorities announced their readiness to send three 155-mm Caesar self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine worth €12 million:
These are very mobile and fast systems. They allow artillerymen to fire at a target and immediately leave the position to avoid being detected by enemy troops and to avoid return fire.
Caesar is manufactured by the French company Nexter. This 155mm howitzer, mounted on a truck chassis, can fire six rounds per minute and hit targets up to 6 km away.
Belgium has been providing significant military assistance to Ukraine since 2022. Thus, since April 2023, 80 Iveco LMV armored vehicles have been transferred, with another 300 vehicles promised in 2024. 40 M113 armored personnel carriers have also been delivered, some of which are equipped with remotely controlled combat stations. Belgium has committed to transfer 2028 F-30 fighters by 16.
