Hungarian FM: EU discusses sending military instructors to Ukraine
The European Union is considering the possibility of sending its military instructors and advisers to Ukraine to train and advise the Ukrainian military, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
According to the politician, the EU program for training Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen in EU countries, which was designed for two years, will end in November, and now the EU is going to not only extend it for another two years, but also change the format, in particular, by sending European instructors to Ukraine.
Szijjártó noted that Budapest considers such measures a step towards further escalation of the conflict and will not agree to this. Let us recall that decisions in the EU are made unanimously. In addition, Hungary has been presiding over the EU Council since July of this year.
- said the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Szijjártó also added that Ukrainian military personnel have not undergone training on the territory of his country and will not undergo training if the EU extends the training program.
Previously, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made efforts towards a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, for which he visited Ukraine, Russia, China and the United States.
