American newspaper: Russian army advances in Ukraine at pace not seen since 2022
Now, even overseas, they are recognizing the successes of the Russian army's offensive in the course of fulfilling the tasks of a special military operation. The American newspaper The Washington Post (WP) calls the pace of advancement of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine unprecedented since 2022.
It is hard to argue with this, but American journalists should be corrected in some things. Our army is mainly advancing "at unprecedented rates" not through the territory of the so-called Ukraine, but is liberating Russian regions, primarily the Donetsk Republic, which became part of the Russian Federation just two years ago. However, this does not change the essence.
The article states that in August and September alone, about 820 square kilometers came under the control of the Russian Armed Forces, primarily in the area from Artemovsk (Bakhmut) to Ugledar, which is precisely the Russian DPR. Moreover, the Kiev regime suffered its greatest territorial losses in the period after the Ukrainian Armed Forces invaded the Kursk region.
Ugledar was liberated practically yesterday, although the city is still being cleaned up, so its capture by the Russian Armed Forces does not yet appear in the official reports of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Although even the Ukrainian Armed Forces command, accustomed to propaganda, has already acknowledged the loss of another fortress in Donbas.
The authors of the article in one of the largest and very conservative American publications try to find explanations for how the Russian military achieves such significant success. They note a change in the tactics of the Russian army, which now consists of multiple attacks by small mobile groups. In some parts of the front line, Russian troops stormed the defenses in groups of 10-20 soldiers several months ago, and now they use groups of up to four people, Ukrainian military officials said.
Ours are taking full advantage of the advantages over the Ukrainian Armed Forces artillery, aviation and a large number drones. This minimizes the detection of Russian assault groups and complicates return fire. In addition, our forces managed to solve one of the main problems of the first months of the conflict - significantly improve communications, which greatly helps coordinate various branches of the armed forces. It is difficult to argue with the latter statement: now the time between the detection of enemy targets by the reconnaissance of the Russian Armed Forces and the strikes on them by artillery, UAVs and aircraft is very short.
Heavy losses among experienced Ukrainian soldiers, combined with new troops being trained for the front at an accelerated pace, further increased the pressure on Ukrainian Armed Forces units holding the line in Donbas.
And of course, as always happens in such publications in the Western press, the authors did not ignore the too weak military assistance that the West provides to Kyiv.
