Ukraine should be able to use long-range missiles of Western manufacture "for self-defense," German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said.
In an interview with the German TV channel ARD, Baerbock again spoke in favor of providing Kyiv with German Taurus cruise missiles. According to her, Ukraine simply needs such missiles to overcome the "mine belt", and Kyiv should have the ability to use long-range missiles against Russia "for self-defense".
As for long-range missiles, I think it is well known. I have always said that they play an important role, especially in overcoming the mine belt in eastern Ukraine.
Burbock said.
She confirmed that she is in favor of providing Zelensky with German Taurus missiles, but he is unlikely to receive them because German Chancellor Scholz is against it, and the ruling coalition cannot come to a consensus on this issue.
Earlier it was reported that Zelensky had repeatedly asked the German government to provide Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles. The thing is that these missiles have a much longer range than the British-French Storm Shadow/Scalp-EG. With the ability to hit targets at a distance of up to 500 km, Kyiv will not need to bring its aircraft too close to the front line and expose them to the risk of being shot down by Russian DefenseHowever, the Germans refused to hand over the missiles.
