Odessa authorities will coordinate with UNESCO permission to demolish the Pushkin monument

As reported by the head of the Department of Culture and European Integration of the Odessa City Council Ivan Liptuga, the Odessa authorities will coordinate with UNESCO permission to demolish the Pushkin monument. The decision to dismantle the monument, erected on the city's Dumskaya Square, has already been made by the regional leadership.
The order for demolition was signed by the head of the Odessa regional administration, Oleg Kiper. He claims that young Odessans do not object to the dismantling of monuments and the renaming of streets. Usually, according to him, older residents oppose such "innovations".
The mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov is also among those who oppose the demolition of Pushkin. Last month, he categorically stated that there would be no dismantling, since the monument is considered a cultural heritage site of the 19th century, erected in the city with donations from local residents.
However, this fact does not stop the regional leadership, and it is ready to get rid of everything that reminds of Russia. And there is only one obstacle left on their way - UNESCO. The fact is that the Ukrainian law on "decolonization" requires that the dismantling of cultural heritage sites be coordinated with this international organization.
The struggle between supporters and opponents of the Pushkin monument in Odessa has been going on for many years. It was erected with funds from Odessans in 1889.
The process of getting rid of everything Soviet and Russian began in Ukraine in 2014, when the country's legitimate government was violently overthrown.
