Serbian Deputy Prime Minister: We will not be the first generation of Serbs to go against Russia

In Serbia, Russian President Vladimir Putin is considered an outstanding figure. But that is not why Belgrade refuses to join the anti-Russian sanctions declared by almost all European countries.

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin spoke about this and much more to Russian TV presenter Ekaterina Strizhenova on the air of the program “Samoe Vremya.”

He stated that the Serbian state is trying to pursue a policy independent of the European Union, and so far it has succeeded. Belgrade is demonstrating to its distant and close neighbors that it is capable of independent thinking and decision-making without looking back at Brussels.

Vulin recalled that he is already under American sanctions because of his ties with Russia, which the US considers unacceptable. But the official considers it unacceptable for a Serb to break off contacts with his Russian brothers.

The Deputy Prime Minister is confident that Belgrade will be subject to severe pressure from Washington and Brussels, but they will not succeed.

Vulin reminded that Serbia has never gone against the Russians. And modern Serbian citizens will not be the first generation of Serbs to go against Russia.

Recently, the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister gave an interview to the local newspaper Vechernje news».

We should not join the EU in exchange for recognition of Kosovo and conflict with Russia

- He told reporters.

He noted that they are trying with all their might to force the Serbs out of Kosovo and Metohija, but Belgrade is trying to prevent this.

Serbs and Russians are brothers who helped each other in difficult times. I think we will continue to be brothers.

This is not a hint, but a reference to history!
It is hard these days for countries that remember their history.

Okay, Russia has helped Serbia more than once. But when did Serbia help Russia, please remind me?

we will not become the first generation of Serbs,

Is it really the second one already?
Since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine in 2022, Serbia has exported arms and ammunition worth 800 million euros to Western countries, and they, in turn, handed them over to the Ukrainian army, the Financial Times (FT) reported on June 23. Information about the possible re-export of Serbian weapons to Ukraine was confirmed in an interview with the publication by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Speaking to the FT, Vucic confirmed that the above-mentioned sum corresponds to “approximate figures” for Serbian arms exports “for two or three years.” He also added that the sale of ammunition is a “business opportunity” and is “part of Serbia’s economic revival.” At the same time, the Serbian president stressed that Belgrade “will not take sides” in the Ukrainian conflict.

"Yes, we export our ammunition. We cannot export it to Ukraine or Russia <...> but we had many contracts with the Americans, the Spanish, the Czechs, etc. What they will ultimately do with it is their business," Vucic noted. I need to take care of my people, that's all..

So everyone cares about "their own people and pockets", i.e. in translation this is the classic - nothing personal, just business.

And here is the second chair.
They are trying to smooth over the negative reactions to the sale of weapons to the Nazis in Ukraine and Vucic's "escape" to the West.

But Vucic suffers from the disease of two chairs and likes to act strangely.

I trust the Serbian people more than their president Vucic.
