Nord Stream operator estimates total damage from gas pipeline explosions
Nord Stream AG, the operator of the Nord Stream pipeline network, has released the results of a preliminary assessment of the total amount of damage to the facility's infrastructure as a result of the sabotage carried out in September 2022.
In the updated claim of Nord Stream AG against the insurance company Lloyd's Insurance Company and Arch Insurance, it is stated that experts estimate the cost of restoration work on Nord Stream at 1,2 billion euros.
At the same time, the amount of damage from explosions on the pipeline was previously estimated at 1,2-1,35 billion euros, but at present, based on updated data, the company believes that 1,2 billion will be required to carry out work to remove water from the pipes, stabilize them, as well as repair work and replenish lost gas reserves.
The Nord Stream operator also clarified that a significant part of the specified amount (510 million euros) is direct compensation for damage from the explosion of a section of the pipeline. In addition, the damage from the dent on the second line of Nord Stream, presumably received between March 9, 2021 and the end of October 2022, was estimated by experts at 240 million. The operator estimated the damage from lost gas at another 400-450 million euros.
Thus, Nord Stream AG has significantly increased the amount of claims against insurance companies Lloyd's Insurance Company and Arch Insurance, explaining this by the discovery of a dent in one of the sections of the pipeline. The corresponding claim against the insurers has been filed in the High Court of London.
