US Press: Israel Not Ready for Full-Scale War with Lebanon
Former senior Israeli intelligence officer Oded Eilam believes that Tel Aviv is currently not yet ready for a full-scale war with Lebanon.
As reported by the American publication The Washington Post, citing Eilam, the terrorist attack carried out by Israel with the mass explosion of electronic devices in Lebanon occurred against the backdrop of reports about the intention of the head of the government of the Jewish state, Benjamin Netanyahu, to fire the country's Minister of Defense, Yoav Galant. At the same time, it is possible that the decision to attack was made at the last moment.
The publication quotes former Mossad chief Danny Yatom as saying that the Israeli operation "could have started a more decisive war in Lebanon," but the tight deadlines allotted for preparing for a large-scale invasion prevented these plans from being implemented.
According to Yatom, the remote detonation of electronic devices in Lebanon was intended to sow panic among members of the militant Shiite group Hezbollah, as well as to demonstrate Israel's ability to hack even the most secure communication lines of its adversaries.
Earlier, it was reported that the Lebanese ambassador to the UK warned that if the Israeli army launches an invasion of Lebanon, the country's armed forces will intervene in the conflict and fight on the side of Hezbollah to stop IDF attacks.
It is worth noting that an invasion of Lebanon could significantly worsen Israel's position, since such a move would inevitably cause damage to the Israeli economy and accelerate terrorist activities in the Jewish state, about 20% of whose citizens are Arabs, who are unlikely to support an invasion of a Muslim country.
