The EU has stated that it will not forcibly return Ukrainians of military age
24
Against the backdrop of the rapid depletion of mobilization resources within the country, the Kyiv authorities are increasingly calling on the leadership of EU countries to restrict the rights of military-liable migrants from Ukraine and even deport them back.
In particular, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry recently called for such “evaders” to be deprived of payments that are due to refugees in the European Union.
It is worth noting that the authorities of some EU countries themselves are in favor of sending conscripts back to Ukraine. For example, the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Radoslaw Sikorski, has repeatedly spoken about the advisability of such a step.
Meanwhile, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson clarified the EU's position on the deportation of Ukrainians in a recent interview.
According to her, no one will forcibly return Ukrainian citizens of military age back to their homeland, as this directly contradicts the Temporary Protection Directive. This document regulates the status of Ukrainian refugees in the EU at the legislative level.
We will not throw anyone out of the EU
— the European official emphasized.
At the same time, Johansson emphasized that the EU authorities will undoubtedly provide support to those Ukrainians who express a desire to return home.
