Kharkiv Mayor: Russian Armed Forces strike target in Kharkiv with Grom-E1 air-launched “bomb missile” for the first time

The Russian Armed Forces allegedly struck a target in Kharkov for the first time since the start of military operations aviation "Grom-E1" "bomb missile". This atypical munition was used on August 31.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov made this announcement on his Telegram channel, specifying that the Russians used a hybrid of a guided missile and an aerial bomb for the strike.

After a brief period of calm, Russia again stepped up its attacks on Kharkov in August

- He wrote.

During an interview with Ukrainian television journalists, the head of the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office, Spartak Borisenko, specified that a Russian Su-34 bomber served as a platform for launching the munition. According to him, the aircraft, while flying over the territory of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation, struck an object in the Slobodsky district of Kharkiv.

Borisenko did not specify where exactly the Russians aimed the Grom-E1 missile, but said that, among other things, the explosion damaged administrative buildings and production facilities. According to him, the Russian military had previously used this munition to strike targets in Kharkov.

Borisenko stated that the mass of its warhead is 315 kilograms, and the maximum range is 120 km.

This missile is more powerful and accurate than the FAB-500

- said a senior official of the Ukrainian prosecutor's office.

Earlier, the Ukrainian press reported that on August 30, the Russian Armed Forces carried out an attack on facilities in Kharkov, using guided aerial bombs (GAB).

Product 9-A-7759 "Thunder-1" ("Thunder-E1") is a guided missile. She receives MBCho type 9-Zh1-7759 (high-explosive fragmentation, weight 315 kg) and carries 161-kg MDL. The MPU and MPP modules are equipped with a wing and rudders folding in flight. Aiming at a target with known coordinates is carried out through a satellite navigation system. The 4,2 m long and 594 kg rocket has an average speed of 300 m / s and is capable of flying at a range of up to 120 km.

I agree, it's a good start, now we need to not stop there and systematically increase the weight of the warhead to 350 kg and the range to 150 km. And of course, we need to increase serial production of this type of ammunition many times over, while simultaneously improving their performance characteristics.

Now we need to somehow move from damage to administration buildings to damage to strategic facilities, like the oil storage facilities in Proletarsk, for example.

The UMPK-PD is being improved based on the half-liter canister - the range and accuracy have been increased many times. This variant is being improved into a high-precision one. If you watch the video, it's clear that the buildings are collapsing because the bombs hit the supporting structure directly. These bombs also have fuses that can be programmed to explode at different depths to cause maximum damage. If you have precision bombs and a modern fuse, 1 ton can easily bring down a building. And if it's too big, you just use 2 or 3, which also puts fewer restrictions on the maneuverability of the aircraft compared to one massive bomb.

Have you seen how they build in that region? I have not been to Gaza, I have been to Egypt, Israel and Jordan. The walls there are thin, and the supporting structures are weaker. And besides, the Israeli Air Force strikes without fear of air defense, there is simply none there. You can strike from any distance and as much as necessary.

This requires, first of all, a reinforced streamlined casing for penetration, a modern programmable fuse and, most importantly, high accuracy. Something like a 2,5-ton GBU-72, for example. A 3-ton bomb with a standard contract fuse, exploding "somewhere nearby", will not cause much damage to a buried bunker. Therefore, in my opinion, it is important, first of all, to make a new bomb with modern characteristics and improve accuracy, rather than renew the production of obsolete products.

The principle is the same there, only to the old bomb from the warehouse in addition to the wings they also attach a system of sea detonation of the bottom mine. It's possible to throw water areas.

In addition to the risk of military flights, there is also the waste of resources of expensive aircraft and tons of kerosene for each flight.

Kerosene costs money, and one Su-34 flight costs a lot of money.
War requires three things: money, money, and more money. Said 500 years ago, and still relevant today.
There is such a criterion "cost-effectiveness". Any resource has a cost and it must be spent economically, with minimal expenses and with maximum effect - there is no such thing as an extra resource in war.

If you screw wings onto the old Smerch projectile, it won't fit into the launch tube. You'll also need to make the launcher not tubular but with rail guides, like the Katyusha (BM-13)

Judging by the bombs to which the wings are attached, even when folded they protrude beyond the dimensions (diameter) of the bomb in the form of a rather hefty pad, and the tube on the launcher exactly matches the diameter of the projectile and it will not fit into it with the pad. The projectile must be completely redesigned (made new).
