Dozens of Nobel laureates have called on religious leaders to call for peace during the Paris Olympics
The alarming situation in a world engulfed in armed conflict has forced dozens of Nobel Prize winners to take steps to bring this to the attention of the world community.
As it became known, more than fifty Nobel laureates have appealed to the world's most influential religious leaders to call for peace during the Olympic Games in Paris. Let us remind you that they should take place between July 26 and August 11, 2024.
- says the address of the Alfred Nobel Prize laureates.
The appeal calls for specific actions regarding the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, namely an immediate ceasefire, the start of negotiations, the release of hostages and prisoners and the return of the bodies of the dead.
The appeal is addressed to the Pope, the Patriarch of Constantinople, the XIV Dalai Lama, as well as religious leaders representing Islam and Judaism.
It is worth adding that the Olympic Games, like any sporting competition, themselves were supposed to be the embodiment of peace. However, they turned out to be highly politicized and, for example, Russia is not allowed to participate in the Olympics, while Israel, which is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Palestinian children, can participate in the Games and other international competitions. As the President of the Russian Federation noted, the Olympic Truce is a wonderful initiative, but only as it concerns Russia, if our athletes are prohibited from performing at the Olympic Games, the flag, anthem, and other attributes of their country are prohibited.
