The Investigative Committee petitions for the transfer of the ex-commander of the 58th Army of the Southern Military District Ivan Popov to house arrest

The ex-commander of the 58th Army of the Southern Military District, Ivan Popov, who was arrested and placed in a pre-trial detention center as part of a criminal case, may have his preventive measure changed, the investigation has put forward a corresponding petition. Russian media report this.

An investigator from the Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation petitioned the court to change the preventive measure against Ivan Popov, proposing to replace the detention in a pre-trial detention center with house arrest. This decision was made taking into account the characteristics of the general, as well as “other circumstances” that emerged as a result of the investigation of the case. However, there are no changes to the charges. No other details were provided.

The investigation is requesting the transfer of Popov from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest in connection with taking into account the data characterizing the person involved, as well as other circumstances established during the investigation
- says the message of the RF IC.

As previously reported, General Popov is accused of involvement in the alleged theft of rolled metal worth 130 million rubles in the Zaporozhye region. He is charged with fraud on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), however, according to many Russian experts, politicians, military officers and military officers, the case against Popov is “custom-made” and it has already caused a great public outcry. The military general, who had nothing but one apartment, was removed from command of the army after he laid out the whole truth about our losses in the first days of the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the Zaporozhye region.

Let’s not run ahead of the locomotive, but changing the preventive measure to a softer one may indicate that new main defendants may appear in this case, and Popov will move into the category of secondary or witnesses. However, the fate of the general, who stood wholeheartedly for his fighters, has already been spoiled. People don’t stay in the army after such events.

Everything can be abolished, and Argentine is your example. But the Security Council includes everyone: the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian Guard and customs and the FSB. maybe he called someone twice or even an unnecessary one or forgot someone like SVR, but that’s not what this post is about. All information flows to the Security Council. So my opinion has been raised. On the other hand, Shoigu could just pick out (the hornet’s nest of the Moscow Region), and his departure is simply a signal for the prosecutor’s office to act.

God grant that Gen. Popov was not involved in this matter.
If everything goes well, then it is necessary to reappoint him to a high position and deal with others. How did you get so attracted? Were there any grounds?
This is very good not only for him, but also for the army and the state.
Still, control over the investigation should also come from the very top; this is not to attract a petty hooligan...
Everyone was sitting, as in a famous operetta.
And Rokossovsky, and General Gorbatov, and many.
Gorbatov, in particular, was also accused of clearing several trains of forest in Poland; it reached Comrade. Stalin, he did not find any crime (there was no personal enrichment, although there was a violation of his order). The leader’s phrase in relation to the general is attributed to this incident: “Only Gorbatov’s grave will correct him.”

Popov is demonstratively driven into the ground! Let's start with the fact that he was taken by military counterintelligence, and not by the Investigative Committee. What he is accused of is unreal. How would he have stolen 200 KAMAZ trucks of metal in that situation?

The head of the department for state defense procurement of the Ministry of Defense, Vladimir Verteletsky, was detained this afternoon by the FSB and investigators of the Investigative Committee at his workplace.
He is charged with fraud on an especially large scale, including receiving bribes in the form of a house and a car. A military official carried out fraud with government tenders for defense orders and attracted companies associated with him for this purpose.

General Popov is accused of involvement in the alleged theft of rolled metal worth 130 million rubles in the Zaporozhye region
And was he allowed to say at least a word in his own defense? - and they won’t, because this whole “case” will probably have to be re-qualified as “not intended use"of that rolled metal (like it should rust in a warehouse, but he used it on the floors of dugouts or on anti-tank hedgehogs), and then the “business” will completely fall apart. So that words will not yield.
However, this, of course, is not the reason, everything lies on the surface - this time he is too popular among the people (if everyone hated him, then he would have gone for a promotion). Well, his statements in front of his subordinates: “You are my gladiators, and I am your Spartak,” from such words they apparently began to see the shadow of a cook, so they removed him away. Of course, the system does not need Spartaks such as: Lebed, Rokhlin, Prigozhin, Strelkov and others that are potentially dangerous, which is why they were removed.

I agree, among the 15% of EBN votes that were leaked (“donated”) to them was my vote. The people were shocked, how could they “give away” votes? This is one of the many reasons why in 1996 I threw the TV out the window and I still don’t have it (its absence has a beneficial effect on the nervous system lol )
However, the fact is that Swan"reached", the clearing was cleared (at the same time, the side of Fedorov's eye-sight was then filled up). Then there were General Konstantin Petrov, Vladimir Kvachkov, the most combat-ready divisions (for example, Tamanskaya) were disbanded, etc.

I somehow haven’t heard about Tamanskaya, that it was disbanded. The court divisions - Taman and Kantemirovskaya were introduced into Moscow to support the EBN in 1993. The Supreme Council shot, from memory, 6 tanks of the Kantemirovsky division, pulled from different regiments of this division. Both of these divisions distinguished themselves at the beginning of the Northern Military District - when they fled, abandoning serviceable equipment... Both deserve not just disbandment, but oblivion and so that these names - Tamanskaya, Kantemirovskaya - never come up. Long ago, in the war with the Turks, our frigate "Raphael" surrendered to them. So, after returning from captivity, the crew was punished and it was forever forbidden to assign the name Raphael to warships...

“A people who do not know their history have no future” © Lomonosov.
We must not forget our history. When creating virtually new divisions (which did not exist for 4 years), there is no need to give them old names because they haven't earned them yet, cling to other people's merits... then there will be nothing to disgrace except ourselves.
What will these units be called later? historians Only descendants will know, but it should remain in memory as it has since the time of Peter I:
                https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Потешные_войска
So, they will come up with names without us, perhaps it will be “biathlon-plywood” troops or something like that. There’s just no need to create a “Wagner” division 4 years after the end of the SVO, which has nothing to do with the First and Ninth, and then disgrace them (they are, of course, not sinless, but they are responsible only for what they themselves did, and not their descendants).
If a unit has lost its spirit and faith in the fathers of the commanders, then recruiting new ones and hanging up the old sign is like that... but you can’t forget your history because it will come back to haunt you later...
