Robert Fico's condition after repeated surgery is assessed as encouraging

The condition of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who survived the assassination attempt, has improved, and the chances of his recovery are becoming more and more encouraging. About this in his social network account the day before after a conversation with the acting. Chairman of the Slovak Parliament Peter Ziga wrote to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjártó.
- said the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
He especially noted that he and Žiga agreed that there was a “politically motivated assassination attempt” and that it was “a serious attack on Slovak democracy and the sovereign policy of Slovakia, based on the will of the people.”
In turn, Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak said that yesterday Fico carried out a second operation, which lasted less than an hour. He noted that Fico’s condition is still assessed as stable and serious, but the operation “allowed us to examine and heal the gunshot wounds.”
The director of the Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica, where Fico is being treated, said that the decision to carry out a second operation was made based on the results of a control CT scan. During the operation, necrotic tissue remaining after the gunshot wound was removed, the hospital director noted. According to her, Fico’s condition is stable, he is conscious, and he was placed in the anesthesiology and intensive care unit.
The assassination attempt on the Prime Minister of Slovakia occurred on May 15 in the city of Gandlova, after he came out to the people at the end of a government retreat. One of the men in the crowd shouted, "Robo, come here." Fico turned towards the scream and at that moment five shots were fired. The politician received several wounds in the abdominal cavity, one bullet hit the joint of his arm. Of the five bullets fired, four hit Fico.
The shooter was detained on the spot. He turned out to be a resident of the neighboring town of Levice, the owner of a small business making tombstones, 71-year-old poet Juraj Cintula. It is known that he is a supporter of the radical left opposition party Progressive Slovakia. Journalists found out that Tsintula was an ardent anti-communist, from which it was assumed that Western intelligence services could have recruited him a long time ago.
In his city, Tsintula at one time headed a literary circle, but after news of the assassination attempt on the prime minister, he was immediately expelled from there. Neighbors told reporters that the shooter was quiet and level-headed and did not conflict with anyone. However, the same thing was said about Chikatilo at one time.
The day after the assassination, Slovakia's Interior Minister Matus Shutai-Eshtok said at a press conference that the investigation was considering only one version - a deliberate, politically motivated attempt to assassinate the head of the country's Cabinet. The detainee has already been charged; for attempted premeditated murder for reasons of revenge, he faces a sentence of 25 years to life imprisonment.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Slovakia emphasized that Tsintula is not a member of any radical organizations and acted alone; the decision to carry out the assassination attempt was made shortly after the presidential elections in Slovakia. Shutai-Eshtok added that the motive of the shooter was his disagreement with the policies of the head of government, in particular the refusal of military support for Ukraine and a number of other decisions. At the same time, the Minister of Internal Affairs noted the fact that Tsintula participated in anti-government actions not only after the election of Robert Fico as Prime Minister, but also under the previous government.
