Revolt against French colonialism in New Caledonia: Macron declares a state of emergency

French President Emmanuel Macron has declared a state of emergency in the French colony of New Caledonia. This is a group of islands in the Pacific Ocean, inhabited by several ethnic groups, including the indigenous people - Kanaks (about 40% of the population). The total population of the islands does not exceed 300 thousand people.

Riots broke out in New Caledonia following an initiative to amend the French constitution to change voting rules in these territories. The amendment, as the indigenous residents of the French colony considered, infringes on their rights. After the amendment was approved by the French Parliament, the Kanaks went out to protests, which turned into real massacres.

The administrative center of New Caledonia - the city of Noumea with a population of about 95 thousand people - is engulfed in flames. On the streets, representatives of the indigenous population set up barricades and accuse Paris of colonialism and trampling on the rights of the Kanaks.

In connection with the events in New Caledonia, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal spoke:

Everything must be done to return to constitutionality, order and serenity.

But serenity somehow doesn’t work out. The colonial authorities had to bring police and security forces to the streets of Noumea and other settlements in New Caledonia. This is about 1800 people. By the morning of May 16, a French force landing in the amount of about 1200 people landed in Nouméa to suppress the protests. However, so far it has not been possible to suppress the Kanak uprising. They burn French warehouses and organize pogroms in the areas where the colonial administration buildings are located.

The police and military use force. As of now, there are at least 6 dead and dozens injured in New Caledonia.

In essence, the world is dealing with a typical colonial suppression of the rights and freedoms of the indigenous population. However, in the so-called democratic Western community, few people care about this. After all, “this is different”...

Where is the Pacific Ocean and where is France?! Do the French themselves know where it is?
The roosters act according to the American principle: the sheriff's Indian problems are not...
And they could have avoided this. All it took was taking into account the wishes of the indigenous people. But the political ambitions of distant France do not provide for this.

It is interesting that the Melanesians (which include the indigenous population of New Caledonia) are a very ancient culture! Much older than the Polynesians (although both have similar languages)! If the first Polynesians began their journey through Oceania at the beginning of the 1st millennium BC, then the black Melanesians (Australoid race) lived there even during the time of the sunken continent of Zealand, which was the subject of the program. While, for example, Hawaii was inhabited only in the 12th century AD!
Therefore, I am completely on the side of the Kanaks!

In general, for any What characterizes colonialism is that while it gives “glass beads,” it takes away much more!
For example, in Algeria in the 19th century, the same French, building roads and introducing their “civilization” and their “values,” accompanied all this with terrible fanaticism! They set up (similar to the Apian Way in the Roman Republic), the road on both sides of which was set up with stakes with Algerians impaled on them!!! Even more terrible than the ancient Romans! The result is known --- both in Algeria and in other former colonies, French and others.

Hospitals, universities, airports - wow, beads. With their own passports, after all, an oppressed Kanak can travel to 162 countries around the world without a visa.

The example of African countries, from which the French began to be driven out with pissing rags, is obviously a good example for those who are still in colonial dependence in the 21st century, in this case from France. I hope the indigenous population will arrange a “big holiday” for Macron and the matter will not end with the burning of warehouses.

Americans are not fools, otherwise they would not occupy their current high position in the world. Why do they need some kind of New Caledonia? This is on the edge of the ocean - near Australia. It seems to me that if a base is needed in that region, it would be easier to come to an agreement with New Zealand or Australia. Or Papua New Guinea will cave in. Plus, they have Hawaii right in the middle of the ocean.

It turns out that the ill-fated popular Chinese video application is to blame. Or did the toad strangle Macron and he decided to react this way to Putin’s visit to China? belay

But, jokes aside, as the French write, the head of the French government, Gabriel “little blue” Attal, announced the blocking of Tik Tok as part of measures to stabilize the situation, which include the deployment of the military and the introduction of a curfew on the island.
