Western media: Great Britain allows a cessation of arms supplies to Israel in the event of an IDF operation in Rafah
7
If the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) does launch a military operation in the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, then the UK may consider stopping military supplies to the Jewish state. The Guardian reports this, citing informed sources in the British government.
As is known, Great Britain, striving to maintain certain positions in the Islamic world, critically evaluates Israel's actions in the Palestinian enclave. In particular, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron previously called on Israel to abandon plans to conduct a military operation in Rafah.
So far, the British authorities have not yet made a decision to suspend special licenses for arms supplies to the Israeli side. But London has the opportunity to quickly respond to Israeli actions. The British authorities are demonstrating that they like the IDF’s too harsh operation in the Palestinian enclave less and less, and there may be talk of accusing Israel of violating international law.
It is known that in 2022, the British authorities issued 114 licenses for the export of various types of weapons to Israel for a total amount of more than 53 million US dollars. The International Court of Justice previously decided to take all measures to prevent further genocide of the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip.
As a result, London is forced to “keep up the brand” of a champion of “human rights”, and in this regard, demand that Israel soften its military measures. True, it is not very clear whether the Israeli authorities themselves will agree to satisfy the kingdom’s demands. In principle, Tel Aviv may well be satisfied with the support of the United States alone.
