“Scrap metal is possible”: The President of Ecuador confirmed the transfer of Soviet equipment to the United States, despite a warning from Russia

Ecuador will transfer old Soviet equipment to the United States, despite Russian warnings against such action. This was stated by the country's President Daniel Noboa.

In an interview with the Ecuavisa TV channel, the Ecuadorian leader said that Russia imposed a ban on the transfer to other countries of Soviet equipment in service with the Ecuadorian army, but the authorities found a way out. According to Noboa, the ban applies only to military equipment, but not to scrap metal. And since all the equipment has long been turned into scrap metal, it will be sent to the USA.

Delivery will be made. They refer to the fact that this is military equipment. We proved that it was scrap metal. Within the framework of international agreements, military equipment cannot be transferred, but such scrap metal can be

- Noboa said, adding that Moscow did not take a completely “adequate position” and could meet Ecuador halfway, since they are experiencing “large-scale unrest.”

Earlier it was reported that the Ecuadorian authorities are ready to transfer old Soviet military equipment to the Americans, presumably for subsequent deliveries to Ukraine. In exchange, Ecuador was promised “modern weapons” worth $200 million. Russia warned against such actions, but 200 million still prevailed.

According to open sources, the Ecuadorian army is armed with several Mi-17 helicopters, Soviet Grad MLRS and Czechoslovakian RM-70 analogues, Osa air defense systems, Igla and ZU-23 MANPADS, and RPG-7 grenade launchers. It is not known what of this will be transferred to the Americans.

Moscow has taken a not entirely “adequate position” and could meet Ecuador halfway, since they are experiencing “large-scale unrest.”

For some reason, it seems to me that the unrest will soon become even more widespread, and Daniel Noboa has very little time left to be president...

Rather, he understands perfectly well who and why is fueling these riots. And Russia's refusal of their bananas is the least of his troubles.

I don’t know who kicked whom out where, but yellow bananas in cardboard boxes are sold in stores as before. Price approximately 130 rubles/kg. Maybe these are our Siberian ones. I don't understand agriculture. sad

I’m sitting eating a banana, judging by the sticker it’s Ecuadorian. in Russia the population is 140 million, in the world the population is more than 7 billion, it turns out that Russians in the banana consumption market are less than 2%. This is a very small share

But it seems to me that everything will end with our Foreign Ministry expressing extreme concern. Because the whole world is accustomed to precisely this reaction from Moscow. And that’s why he means these “expressions of concern.”

This Noboa is from a family of banana kings. They grew up by exporting bananas at one time. We need to start with a ban on the export of bananas and other fruits. It’s better to buy from Venezuela or Brazil. I think there's a lot of this stuff there.

So it EVERYTHING has gone up in price, basically. And yet, the price has risen to the point of a hypothetical, but desirable, refusal of Ecuadorian bananas. But once again, competition in this market is noticeable, so a specific refusal will not lead to a noticeable increase in price.

Correct, but "a little" late proposal. The import substitution program of the Russian Federation Decree dated April 15.042014, 328, number 330, has long since entered into legal force. According to it, a budget of 2022 billion rubles should be allocated annually for the implementation of approved plans. By October 1,5, the regulations already included about XNUMX thousand launched projects. I will be glad if this makes you any happier.

Look, now all sorts of Ecuadors and Kuwait would behave differently.

And the families of our elite would vacation not in Courchevel, Biarritz and Dubai, but in a village near Moscow.

    Why don’t we act symmetrically?
Why don't we supply the Houthis with MANPADS, Gerani Lancets and other useful things?
We need to deliver urgently! (just so that NATO intelligence doesn’t burn it down)
They are now the only specific motivated guys who can give the Yankees a beating in a direct confrontation!
Otherwise, the mattress covers have become seriously loose, and we, with our spreaders, keep pulling and pulling the cat by the tail.

Have you ever thought that the Houthis, despite all their “fiery statements,” are also very fond of green pieces of paper called dollars and MANPADS/Geraniums/Lancets can easily and unforcedly affect VN?

        This is doubtful.
They don’t have mansions and Mercedes because their motivation is different, and therefore with the “extra dollars” they would rather buy weapons for themselves than sell them to others.

Yes, practice shows that NOBODY is immune from this, and even written contracts are not respected in certain situations.. Today they are friends, but tomorrow they are just “partners” or even enemies..
Then provide export options (simplified versions of weapons).
Or give them captured weapons - NATO weapons squeezed from the pan-heads.
Although it probably isn’t available in such quantities as is needed for the normal defense of the Houthis...
If there is a desire, we can come up with options.

You think we have a lot of them, they are collected by hand and there are very few of them in the Northern Military District, but you still want to help someone else, the industry needs to be revived, destroyed by Chubais and other liberals, to provide for our army to begin with, and then think about help...

Why does he do this? But because the Russian Federation, as the SGA, cannot punish him for this in any way.

It depends on how you look. Russia's trade turnover with Ecuador is around 2 billion dollars a year. The largest group of imports from Ecuador is fruits, nuts and other agricultural products (more than 1 billion per year). As for me, we can do without their fruits and nuts, but their agricultural producer, having lost the long-term market by 1 billion dollars (annually), in exchange for 200 million dollars (one-time) can take to the streets with hoes and pitchforks , to give President Noboa a little boost.

As long as the dollar rules in international relations, everyone will have problems and Ecuador is no exception. If Putin and Xi can move it with joint and coordinated efforts, say by offering the world some alternative... the gold equivalent, for example, so to speak... the hegemon will collapse. Maybe not right away, people's thinking is inertial, as are hopes. IMHO.

Question for the experts. Let's say we supplied military equipment to some friendly country. The government in this country changes and the country declares war on us. Will we be able to easily detect and destroy this equipment? In other words, is there a practice of introducing devices into military equipment supplied abroad that allow, at a minimum, the manufacturer to detect and destroy this equipment?

Was there a lengthy article about this Ecuadorian on Kommersant?
He defeated all the bandits, built a new prison, allowed himself to be elected... The population is delighted with the democratic-totalitarian government.
Or am I confusing you with someone else from Latin America?

The President of Ecuador confirmed the transfer of Soviet equipment to the United States, despite a warning from Russia

Here is Ecuador. Before this, Greece also transfers everything it can. So it turns out that the USSR supplied its own friends/enemies with weapons. Maybe it’s better for Russia to supply weapons to the Houthis and Yemenis!?... Then we’ll see who is giving weapons to whom...

I read the comments and am simply surprised by the reaction. Ecuador hands over weapons under the guise of scrap metal. It may be old, but the weapon will end up in Ukraine. A weapon is always a weapon capable of killing. Even after a hundred years. And we are talking about bananas.

The article says that of the Soviet equipment, only the Grad MLRS is in Ecuador's arsenal. Probably a shaggy year. Neither the Mi-17 nor the Czechoslovakian weapons have anything to do with the Soviet ones. We are probably talking about the transfer of helicopters. It seems expensive to maintain them. And the United States offered to replace it with more recent black hawks.
