“Scrap metal is possible”: The President of Ecuador confirmed the transfer of Soviet equipment to the United States, despite a warning from Russia
Ecuador will transfer old Soviet equipment to the United States, despite Russian warnings against such action. This was stated by the country's President Daniel Noboa.
In an interview with the Ecuavisa TV channel, the Ecuadorian leader said that Russia imposed a ban on the transfer to other countries of Soviet equipment in service with the Ecuadorian army, but the authorities found a way out. According to Noboa, the ban applies only to military equipment, but not to scrap metal. And since all the equipment has long been turned into scrap metal, it will be sent to the USA.
- Noboa said, adding that Moscow did not take a completely “adequate position” and could meet Ecuador halfway, since they are experiencing “large-scale unrest.”
Earlier it was reported that the Ecuadorian authorities are ready to transfer old Soviet military equipment to the Americans, presumably for subsequent deliveries to Ukraine. In exchange, Ecuador was promised “modern weapons” worth $200 million. Russia warned against such actions, but 200 million still prevailed.
According to open sources, the Ecuadorian army is armed with several Mi-17 helicopters, Soviet Grad MLRS and Czechoslovakian RM-70 analogues, Osa air defense systems, Igla and ZU-23 MANPADS, and RPG-7 grenade launchers. It is not known what of this will be transferred to the Americans.
