Abandoned prototype workshop
In 1965, a student design bureau (SKB) was formed at the aircraft building department of the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI). It was engaged in the creation of experimental manned and remotely controlled light aircraft. In 1982, the SKB was transformed into the Sectoral Student Design Bureau for Experimental Aircraft Engineering MAI (OSKBES MAI).
01. In 1999, by decree of the President of Russia, employees of the MAI and employees of the plant, a photograph of one of the shops of which we see, were awarded the State Prizes of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology for the development and introduction into serial production of a family of ultralight multi-purpose aircraft.
02. One of the most successful projects of OSKBES was Aviatika-MAI-890 aircraft. Started developing this lightweight multi-purpose aircraft in the 1987 year. He made his first flight in 1989. In the same year began its delivery and operation.
03. Since 1992, more than 200 MAI 890 Aviation aircraft have been produced and sold. And in 1999, a Russian certificate was obtained for the aircraft.
Serial production of Aviatik-MAI-890 aircraft in this factory, 1993.
04. A few words about the Aviatika-MAI-890 aircraft. This is a light multipurpose aircraft designed for training flights, air travel, patrols, aerial surveys, etc. It belongs to the class of “very light aircraft” (VLA - very light airplane). There is a double variation -
[Aviatika-MAI-890U]
and agricultural version -
[Aviatika-MAI-890СХ]
. The latest version is intended for ultra-small-volume pollination of agricultural land and is famous for having received a special certificate in 2002 year, and at the moment it is the first and only certified agricultural aircraft in Russia.
05. On the basis of Aviatiki-MAI-890, was also created
[Autogyr-MAI-205]
. Autogyro - a rotary-wing aircraft, in flight resting on the bearing surface of a free-rotating autorotation of the rotor. Other autogyro names are “giroplan” (this term is officially used by the FAA), “gyrocopter” (in Bensen Aircraft terminology), and “rotaplan”. Wikipedia The first flight of the MAI-205 made in 2001 year.
06. At the moment the project is frozen.
07. Despite the fact that from the side of the street the workshop seems to be working, it is completely abandoned.
08. Every day, a huge number of people pass by it and thousands of cars pass by, but hardly anyone guesses that there are airplanes covered with dust and bird droppings behind the facade of a four-storey house, hung with air conditioners.
09. In addition to Aviatiki, another interesting aircraft was created in the workshop - the T-101 Rook.
10. At the beginning of the 90-ies of the last century. In our country, great difficulties arose in the aircraft industry, major projects were frozen, the development of something new stopped. But despite all the difficulties at the Roks-Aero enterprise, work began on designing the T-101. In 1992, development was started and already the first aircraft was built in this workshop in 1993.
11. In December, the 1994 of the year, the T-101, first flew into the air, piloted by test pilot Viktor Zabolotsky. Viktor Vasilyevich Zabolotsky (born 19 on April 1946, Moscow) - Honored Test Pilot of the USSR, Test-cosmonaut, President of the Russian Federation of Aviation Amateurs. Multiple world record holder in aircraft sports.
12. When developing the T-101 Grach many factors were taken into account. The plane was supposed to be simple and reliable in terms of design solutions, cheap to manufacture, with the possibility of operation from small unpaved sites. The T-101 had to have the function of a quick refit so that it could be used as an ambulance plane, rescue, patrol, for dropping cargo and people.
13. Test pilot Viktor Vasilyevich Zabolotsky after the first flight said: “I will not get out of the cabin. I will retire, and I will fly on this plane!” As a result of two dozen flights of Zabolotsky on the “Rook”, all the characteristics set by the designers were confirmed.
14. Zabolotsky noticed: - I believe, "Grach" will be a massive aircraft. It is especially useful for the North and East, in remote regions where there are no roads. The guarantee is the possibility of landing at small sites, the absence of the need to warm up the engine, even in severe frosts. The aerodynamic quality of the T-101 is quite high: with a wing area of 2 / 5 less than that of the An-2, its speed of separation by 20 km / h is less. The main advantage of the “Rook” is the exceptional engine efficiency. Kerosene cost for
[TVD-10B]
twice cheaper than aviation gasoline, and in the North - four times! Mi-8, for example, consumes 1000 liters of fuel per hour, and for T-101 this amount is enough for 4 hours.
15. In addition to the advantages described above, there was another important one. The cost of the aircraft was 2-3 times lower than that of similar multi-purpose transport aircraft.
16. But despite all the positive moments, the plane did not manage to get into the series. 50 aircraft kits were created in this workshop, but we could not sell them. For the banal reason: the lack of finance from airlines in the middle of 90.
17. Although there is still a chance that the works of the employees of the design bureau and the plant were not in vain. The T-101 became the prototype for the new Viscount V100 aircraft.
18. The developers of the new aircraft were the ASA-Aerodesign Aircraft Corporation and OSKBES MAI.
19. The corporation bought the Rooks 20 assemblies and will build the Viscount V100 based on them. So all is not lost.
20. But the fact that they did not buy it was left to lie in the workshop.
21. Covering with dust and dirt.
22. The aircraft models described above were not the only ones in the factory premises.
23. Full-scale mock-up of the E-1 aircraft project UAB "SAVIAT"
24. Lightweight four-five-seat aircraft "E-1" is intended for use: as a personal vehicle ("flying car")
25. The approximate cost of the "flying car" is 150 000 $
26. T-411 "Stork"
27. The development of the T-411 light multipurpose aircraft began in 1994 at Roks-Aero, in collaboration with the GKNPTs them. MV Khrunichev. The basis of the design was taken glider aircraft
[Yak-xnumx]
.
28. In the 1997, two prototypes were created. In the same year, the aircraft was shown at the MAKS-97 air show.
29. Aerodynamic scheme of the aircraft is a single-engine monoplane. The design of the aircraft consists of a frame welded from steel pipes (steel 4130). The casing is made of a set of profiles (D16T).
30.Т-411 is designed to transport passengers and cargo over distances up to 1200 km. The design allows you to quickly convert it into sanitary, patrol, aero taxi. The aircraft is easy to fly, not picky about ground handling facilities.

32. We continue to walk around the shop. Further photos with small comments.
33. A lot of shelving with details. The feeling that everyone was kicked out at once and no one was allowed back.
34.
35. The equipment is still in working condition. The shop has not yet begun to cut into scrap.
36.
37.
38. Very, very often, I meet in the shops collections of girls cut from newspapers, with an almost complete lack of clothing. Immediately obvious, the men worked.
39. In the corner there were stocks with cabins for fighters.
40.
41. General view of one of the two halls of this workshop.
42. On the whole, it is a pity that ruined production of such a scale, but it is good that the development of this workshop has been continued in other areas.
