The French Navy is strengthening its presence in the Red Sea with the frigate Alsace equipped with air defense systems.

To strengthen its presence in the Red Sea, the French National Navy has sent the FREMM DA class frigate Alsace, optimized for air defense, to the region. A French warship passed through the Suez Canal to strengthen the protection of merchant ships from missile attacks and drones Yemen's Houthi rebels.

The Alsace frigate will likely replace the Languedoc frigate, which was previously involved in escorting and ensuring the safety of the movement of merchant ships in the Red Sea.

Alsace is the first of two air defense ships belonging to the FREMM DA (Frégate Européenne Multimissions de Défense Aérienne) class. The second ship from this unit, the frigate Lorraine, entered service in November 2023.

The FREMM DA class ships are optimized for air defense and equipped with systems that give them greater flexibility than the FREMM class ships designed for anti-submarine warfare. Alsace is equipped with the Hercules multifunctional radar, Aster 15 and 30 anti-aircraft missiles, Exocet MM 40 anti-ship missiles, MU 90 torpedoes, as well as a new version of the SETIS combat management system and fire control radar.

The deployment of the Alsace is most likely due to the need to strengthen units specializing in air defense, which include the American Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and the British ship HMS Diamond.

I sincerely wish the Houthis to plant at least a couple of missiles into its side and superstructure!

Who hasn't kicked the French yet? It's time to join a good company from African countries, states that humiliate them financially and Russia, which shoots their warriors

Is air defense of great importance today? All our ships have air defense in one form or another... but how many of our pennants in the Black Sea have the Ukronazis already disabled easily and naturally?

So I hope that this will not help the frog boat either, and it will soon sink to the bottom.

Tell me, which of them, still Soviet-built, (except for the Moscow) had modern air defense?
