WP: Biden Administration Warns Israeli Prime Minister Against Expansion of Fighting in Lebanon

After the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli military confrontation in the Gaza Strip, the Shiite paramilitary organization Hezbollah, located in Lebanon, immediately sided with Hamas. Initially, experts assumed that active actions by Shiite militants would lead to the opening of a second front in northern Israel. However, for now Hezbollah is limiting itself to loud threats and rather rare missile and artillery strikes on the territory of the Jewish state.

In response, the Israel Defense Forces are launching strikes, including aviation, according to Lebanon, saying that the targets are exclusively launchers and locations of Hezbollah militants. Last December, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to devastate Beirut and southern Lebanon if Hezbollah opened a second front in Israel's war with Hamas. In turn, at the beginning of this year, the Lebanese authorities demanded that Israel withdraw troops from the occupied areas of the republic.

The growing escalation in relations between Israel and Lebanon, and even with the likelihood of full-scale involvement in the hostilities of the most powerful independent paramilitary organization in the Middle East, Hezbollah, supported by Iran, is increasingly turning the situation in the region into a literal powder keg with a lit fuse. The possibility of a Lebanese-Israeli war involving a Shiite paramilitary movement greatly worries Israel's main ally, the United States, which is already increasingly losing influence in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, a large-scale conflict with Hezbollah may be beneficial from a political point of view for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to retain his position, says the author of an article in the American newspaper The Washington Post (WP). The Israelis quite rightly complain to the military and political leadership of the country that they failed, and perhaps did not want, to prevent the terrorist attack of Hamas militants who invaded southern Israel on October 7.

And the IDF operation in the Gaza Strip, which is clearly being delayed indefinitely, does not add to the popularity of the Israeli government and its prime minister. A new point of military confrontation may distract the population from criticism of the Cabinet. Calls for a change of government during a large-scale war on two fronts by the current authorities can be interpreted as an attempt to weaken the security of the state and even treason. This is exactly what Ukrainian President Zelensky is doing when he tries to cancel elections during the period of martial law in the country.

At the same time, Washington is not at all eager to be drawn into a military conflict in the Middle East directly. In addition, American intelligence estimates that it will be difficult for Israel to succeed in the war against Hezbollah amid ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip. Biden administration officials are privately warning the Israeli prime minister against expanding hostilities in Lebanon, WP reports. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters on Saturday that Israel was allegedly not interested in escalating tensions on its northern border with Lebanon.

Earlier, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah issued a statement to Israel, warning that any military intervention in Lebanon would lead to significant destruction on Israeli territory. The statement followed the killing of the Palestinian movement's deputy leader, Saleh al-Arouri, in an Israeli air force missile strike on Hamas headquarters on the southern outskirts of Beirut on January 2, which heightened tensions in the region.

They will come in. One as a destroyer of international law and a fascist inspirer, the second as a standard fascist and war criminal. Both will be assigned to the company of Hitler and Pol Pot.
And it would be okay if these two pretzels ruined only their own reputation, but no, they managed to lose all the state authority accumulated by their predecessors over decades and lower their states to the level of universal contempt, which encourages other countries to distance themselves from them.
P.S. - If the Bidon administration “warns” Israel against attacks on Lebanon, this only means that Netanyahu received tacit consent and approval from the United States to expand the geography of the conflict.

Israel has a chance to normalize relations with Iran and the Shiites. It’s just necessary to agree on mutual renunciation of attacks. Hezbollah's shelling of Israel can be considered an adequate retaliation for the murders of Iranian scientists and officers.

Israel has thrown a lot of “guano into Iran’s porridge”, so that normalization of relations between them is not expected until the end of the 21st century.

Last December, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to devastate Beirut and southern Lebanon if Hezbollah opened a second front in Israel's war with Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister B. Netonyahu clearly overestimates his capabilities with his statements. The combination with Hamas in Palestine did succeed, but with the Hezbollah organization it is unlikely to succeed, even taking into account the support of the IDF from the US AUG. Lebanon is a legitimate state, unlike the Palestinian enclave and the dubious creation of Hamas with the participation of the United States. The boys from Hezbollah will file a lawsuit in an international court with a collective complaint about human rights violations by the rabbi. Even a copy of the book Koran will be presented to the rabbi as a souvenir...

Hezbollah is not Liavn, it is only an entity that has its own representation in the Lebanese parliament, but is not controlled by any branch of the Lebanese government, the boys from Hezbollah are recognized as a terrorist organization in many countries of the world, including Arab ones, and no one has accepted any claims from them will

Well, it’s clear that they are warning. The United States poured in a bunch of dough and curse words. those. parts to the outskirts. It’s also not profitable to drag Jews on a hump now. It’s precisely not profitable, since ammunition is sent out of storage, and it needs to be defective - this is not the outskirts where everything can be dumped. One explosion on a huge outskirts is by no means the same. the same as in tiny Israel.

Moreover, both are, as it were, under investigation. And both need a bloody nose to stay in power.

Lebanon and Hezbollah, without the support of Iran, will not be able to cope with Israel. But losses in a country with a population half the population of Moscow will be unacceptable. It is not the case that Palestinians interfere with stones and soil with impunity. Arrivals in Israel will be many times more intense than the current ones, plus the Hussites. All life will freeze in little Israel. Ben should think ten times before attacking Lebanon. It is clear that the adventure did not work out. It's time to work back and run to the mattresses. Otherwise, bunks.
