US coalition helicopters sank boats of Yemeni Houthis who attacked a Danish container ship in the Red Sea

American coalition helicopters sank Yemeni Houthi boats that attacked the Singapore-flagged container ship Hangzhou. This was reported by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

Yemen's Houthis attacked a container ship of the Danish company Maersk, sailing under the flag of Singapore, twice in 107 hours in the Red Sea. The first attack was carried out using anti-ship missiles launched from Houthi ground installations, but the missiles were intercepted by the American destroyer USS Gravely (DDG-XNUMX), which was escorting a commercial vessel.

The second attack on the same container ship Hangzhou was carried out using boats; the Houthis in four craft approached the ship and fired at it with automatic weapons and tried to climb aboard, but were shot back by the crew of the container ship. The ship's crew managed to send a distress signal, to which American helicopters arrived and sank three of the four boats. As stated, in response to fire from the Houthis, i.e. as self-defense.

US Navy helicopters returned fire in self-defense, sinking three of the four small boats and neutralizing the crews. The fourth boat left the site

- said in a statement.

There are no further details, the container ship has moved on, the US coalition continues to patrol off the coast of Yemen, providing shipping support as part of Operation Prosperity Guardian.

Either the Houthis will block commercial transport, or the coalition will block the Houthis, there is no third option.

And then what? Will the Houthis be able to kill NATO destroyers and combat helicopters? There are big doubts that the Houthis with MANPADS will be the first to see the helicopter, and not it in a boat, on the open sea... But that’s okay, theoretically the helicopter will fly too close and it will be possible to work on it with MANPADS, at least try. But from a grenade launcher, from a rocking boat, I’m afraid I’ll easily miss a helicopter at 20m. If the level of threats becomes higher than Houthi pirates, individual missiles and kamikaze drones, then the United States will send an AUG there and clear the entire coast of Yemen with aviation, depriving the Houthis of the possibility of any attacks. But I suspect it won’t come to this and they will cope, yet the Houthis’ capabilities are very limited, even with the Iranian military trade against a couple of URO destroyers and combat helicopters.

The US Navy's combat helicopters are mainly Bell AH-1Z Viper, the Cobra and Hellfire upgrades have a destruction radius of 11 km. There is a video from Iraq in 2008, where the Apache Crew first looked at a group of militants almost point-blank from 9 km, and then hit this group with Helfire at a range of 8000 m+. But it was an Apache Langbow, apparently with Helfires up to 11 km, since the target was clearly visible on the radar and the optical capabilities made it possible to continue shooting. But there are Helfair views from 8000m. In my opinion, at the moment the Americans took the Spike LR from the Jews for distances of 10-30 km, the latter use them the same way, with the Apaches. But Supercobra has its own control system, as I read, it is more advanced than Apache Longbow.

The Houthis tried to board the “aircraft carrier” with 4 boats. They fought with two US helicopters, but they there was no MANPADS in the ammunition load. The result is known. Strange message: why were not 4 boats sunk, but three? Are the cartridges running out? Why didn’t the Houthis, when going on such a risky event, take some stingers or needles just in case? Or maybe, having fired at the Houthi boats, they in response destroyed or damaged the helicopters and they were forced to retreat, but announcing to the whole world that they had won a great victory over the Houthi Navy laughing

How do you imagine this? Have you seen the weapons of a combat helicopter? Do you think you can fight from a boat with machine guns against a combat helicopter after it opened fire on you and your boat looks more like torn panties than a boat? Most likely, the gunships opened fire out of sight for the Houthis in the boats, fired several volleys at the first boats, missed the last one and it turned around, did not pursue it, perhaps allowed it to gather survivors from the first three in order to negotiate through diplomatic and espionage channels. This Red Sea, this shipping route is needed by everyone, not only the West, but also China, and it is unlikely that they will allow any kind of destabilization there for a long time because of some Houthis.

Do you have any idea what a MANPADS is? Do you know exactly what kind of boats were there and what the Houthis were armed with? Any most sophisticated combat helicopter can be brought down if skillfully. And any child already knows how Americans can lie, and blindly believing them does not respect oneself.

Skillfully, how is that? Here you are sitting in a boat, on the open sea, and suddenly you see a combat helicopter that is moving towards you with the goal of shooting you? Of course, I won’t argue about who has what kind of optics, the helicopter that is coming purposefully towards you, or you, your eyes, and who will see first, but I suspect that the crew of a combat helicopter with the task of defeating armed pirates will not fly up to the boats , or boats, in order to see them first with your eyes, they have good, all-weather optics, and while you are in the boat with your skills and talents in using MANPADS and RPGs against combat aircraft on the open sea, you will peer into the horizon, they are already with you Your colleagues will count all the buttons on their shirts. Of course, you may have a chance to see a helicopter, but only when, after hitting your boat with a missile, it does not fly up to finish you off with a machine gun on the scraps of your boat. Of course, God forbid, I meant you specifically, I used you as an example. I would be very surprised if naval aviation, when on missions to capture or destroy pirates on the high seas, did not think about the possibility of pirates having MANPADS. Over the past many years of the fight against pirates, the Navy forces have not had any losses. I see no reason not to believe the Americans in this case, since nothing unusual happened in such cases; the optics and armament of the Navy combat helicopter do not leave any chance for boatmen with MANPADS. Now, if the Americans had said, we sailed in boats to intercept the Houthis on combat helicopters and were able to shoot down 3 out of 4, but the 4th left because it was faster... or something like that, then one would have doubted their story .

It seems to me that they are not telling us something. Okay, even if the boats were small and there was no place to install ATGMs, the Houthis have RPGs in commercial quantities. And they write about automatic weapons. I don’t understand why the hell come close to a ship with only a machine gun, when it’s much more effective to use something like an RPG-7? But the Houthis are not woodpeckers; they have been fighting for a long time and quite successfully. I think they also have MANPADS. Of course, sinking such a fool is a serious task, but shredding the wheelhouse so that the ship sails cleanly under local control is a completely doable task.
