21 January - Day of Engineers
Engineering troops, as their name implies, solve the problems of combat engineering. This concept, according to the Ground Forces Combat Regulations, includes engineering reconnaissance of enemy facilities and the surrounding area, creation of fortifications, equipping positions, lines and areas, as well as command and control points, erecting engineering barriers, installing land mines, disabling enemy landfills, and building aisles in the barriers. and blockages, the organization of passes through obstacles, demining, the organization and maintenance of crossings for forcing water obstacles, masking, engineering measures for liquidation of the consequences of nuclear strikes, extraction of drinking water, its purification and maintenance of water supply facilities. Thus, the range of tasks facing the troops is very wide and is not limited to the traditional ideas of the "construction battalion" that exist in a civilian environment.
In peacetime, engineering troops were repeatedly involved in solving various economic and environmental tasks, as well as tasks related to ensuring the safety of the civilian population: they participated in demining the territories, eliminating the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, eliminating the effects of natural disasters, and guarding bridges and hydraulic structures during floods .
Today, the range of tasks facing the engineering troops is expanding the need to counter the increased threat of mine-disruptive terror. Solving this task requires equipping troops with special equipment, new approaches to targeted training of specialists, which is currently being successfully implemented in educational institutions that train specialists for engineering troops, as well as through close cooperation with other security agencies.
According to the head of the engineering troops of the Armed Forces of Russia, Major-General Yuri StavitskyIn the coming year, special attention will be paid to equipping troops with engineering weapons in order to increase their combat capabilities in the performance of support tasks. The Major General notes that in the course of the implementation of the State Armaments Program until 2020, the engineering troops continue their targeted work on the development of the entire system of engineering weapons. The troops received new cranes, excavators, masking tools and water storage facilities. The chief promises that before 2020, the troops will receive the latest automated engineering and reconnaissance and universal armored engineering and engineering road machines and other new equipment, superior in their characteristics to foreign counterparts, which will ensure the implementation of the entire complex of tasks facing the troops today. In short, the prospects for the engineering troops, as with the entire Russian Army, are very promising. Let's hope for the best and congratulate the engineering troops on their professional holiday!
