Ex-President of France: Trying to defend Ukraine’s entry into NATO at any cost is a mistake

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy shared his opinion on the situation around Ukraine in an interview with the Spanish newspaper Mundo.

The French politician said that he does not support Ukraine's entry into the North Atlantic Alliance and noted that he sees Ukraine as a bridge between Europe and Russia. Thus, Sarkozy spoke in favor of the neutral status of Ukraine.

Ukraine has every right to defend itself. However, trying to protect Ukraine’s NATO membership at any cost is a mistake.

- emphasized the ex-president of France.

According to Sarkozy, during the years of his presidency (2007-2012) he did not support the entry of Ukraine and Georgia into NATO, and now his opinion has not changed.

Speaking about a neutral Ukraine, Sarkozy added that it should have strong security guarantees from the international community.

The ex-President of France also touched upon the policies of the current French President Emmanuel Macron. According to Sarkozy, Macron’s attempts to conduct a dialogue with the Russian president were correct and it was necessary to continue to adhere to this policy, which was not done.

Let us recall that in December 2014, the Ukrainian authorities at the legislative level abandoned the country’s non-aligned status.

It is worth noting that one does not have much faith in the sincerity of Sarkozy’s words. It was he who, as President of France, played the main role in inciting the war in Libya with the subsequent murder of the leader of that country, Muammar Gaddafi.

All of Ukraine's current problems began when Ukraine announced its desire to join NATO... On May 23, 2002, at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) chaired by President Leonid Kuchma, Ukraine for the first time officially announced a course towards joining NATO... You have to be very stupid not to understand that Russia will not like this very much... NATO bases in Ochakovo and Crimea, the arrival time of NATO missiles is 10-15 minutes... Well, who was supposed to like this...? ?? All Ukrainian leaders were warned that Ukraine would have very serious problems because of this... They stubbornly did not believe in it... They thought Russia and Putin did not have enough fortitude for this... However, enough was enough... Well, how do you like it? our current “not brothers” like all this...??? And don’t say that you weren’t warned about the consequences... Ukraine was a bridge between Europe and Russia... Is it really so bad for you, creaks, sucking on two mothers at once...??? As they say there, the greed of the fraternity ruined... And Ukraine too...

What is this guy talking about - how, in general, can a country that is at war and suffering defeat be taken into NATO?

He himself was dragged through the courts so that he began to think correctly.
And before, when I was in power, how much harm I brought to others.
