Commander of the Canadian Navy: “The fleet cannot detect the incursion of new Russian submarines into its waters”

Due to political divisions, questionable procurement decisions and chronic underfunding, the Canadian Armed Forces is currently “on the brink.” In particular, the plight of the country's navy forced its commander to post footage online calling for help.

Vice Admiral Angus Topshey [under Russian sanctions since May 2022] warns of 'critical condition' endemic fleet. Canada's military spending relative to GDP is the lowest in NATO. At the same time, the government led by Justin Trudeau decided to reduce them by a billion Canadian dollars [€700 million] in the next fiscal year.

The Navy currently faces very significant challenges that could mean we will not be able to meet our readiness commitments in 2024 and beyond.

- said Topshi.

The first problem concerns the number of naval personnel: in some specialties the deficit is at least 20%. According to its commander, the blame for this lies with the personnel service of the Ministry of Defense, which has not fulfilled its tasks for 10 years.

As a result, according to the military man, only one of the four Arctic patrol ships of the Harry DeWolfe class can be crewed:

The lack of qualified technicians limits the ability to maintain and operate ships, forcing us to prioritize Halifax-class frigates over Kingston-class coastal defense [minesweepers] ships.

As the Vice Admiral explains, the problem with the 12 Halifax frigates is not being resolved, although their service life has already come to an end, since plans to replace them with 15 frigates of the British Type 26 project remain unrealized.

This is a serious problem. I wish this weren't the case, but I'm afraid there's simply no other choice.

- explained the military.

According to him, this state of affairs will lead to serious consequences at the operational level:

Currently, the Navy does not have the ability to detect incursions into its territorial waters by Russia's new submarine fleet.

Despite modernization, the Victoria-class diesel-electric submarines [4 submarines purchased from Britain for 750 million Canadian dollars in the late 1990s, continuing service] and Halifax frigates do not have a reinforced hull that allows them to patrol Arctic waters. At the same time, the combat readiness of the submarines is close to zero, despite significant financial investments to maintain them in working condition. Therefore, according to the vice admiral, 12 new submarines are urgently needed.

The dog knows that the small colony is located under the roof of the neighboring large colony, and there - give a few pennies for the war. Apparently there were ancestors in the family with forelocks.

Not quite on topic, but I did remember a story from the recent past about the Swedes. For many years they thought that first Soviet and then Russian submarines were trying to penetrate their territory. Dozens of signals were picked up, but not a single submarine could be caught.
The truth was revealed at the beginning of the XNUMXs (there was even a TV story about it). It turned out that herring was to blame. A school of fish, swimming, releases gases - the device mistakes these vibrations for a submarine wassat

Well, for the sake of truth, it is worth admitting that this paranoia did not arise completely out of nowhere.
This began after our submarine S-363 (later nicknamed "Swedish Komsomolets") ran aground in their territorial waters just 12 kilometers from the main Swedish naval base in 1981.

We don’t need anything from Canada, just free access to a 200-mile zone to catch fish. Our sanctions have made the admiral too timid and Trudeau has no money for all sorts of worthless wants.

I was in Canada... very friendly people... conditions in the northern places, yes - like in the taiga in Siberia... they are, in fact, deeply violet about what is happening in the world... they just live and that’s all. Essentially, our far north is the same... our own land and there are no special restrictions on weapons like we have. Honestly, you can kick... I wouldn’t mind moving... the ranch, etc. But they just had some horse demands regarding emigration... they were... I don’t remember right now.
    And so is nature good
I dream of just leaving... forgetting what’s going on in the world... raising children, taking care of the house and supporting myself. feel

Everything started to deteriorate in 2007. Now there is nothing to do there.
In addition, since 2014, 404 migrants have experienced exacerbation.

Have you been to Canada and not communicated with representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora? You "lost" a lot, however.
I would not wish my enemy to marry a Canadian daughter of the Ukrainian people.

I’ll say again... what I also wrote earlier... I’m 1/3 of the main... Nocho, Jew and Ukrainian. And why am I now fighting for the Wahhabis, killing Palestinians in Gaza and killing Russians in the Donbass? It's a matter of upbringing. If you had a negative experience, well, you need to spread it to the whole nation. Every family has its black sheep... (c)

      raise children

But don’t flatter yourself here. In Canada they won’t let you raise children, they will raise them for you. And they will decide for you what gender and orientation your children will have. Or they will offer euthanasia for minors. And if you object, immediately and without talking, go to prison for five years, so that they don’t doubt democracy. so I wish you success.

It’s hard to look for a black cat in a dark room, especially if it’s not there. This is not the fear of Russia, it’s the hope of snatching money or goodies from the hegemon. Only frostbitten people can shout that Russia pleases everyone, but there are many of them and they are united.
