US Press: Biden's unconditional support for Israel leads to a split in the White House
13
The Joe Biden administration's handling of the Middle East conflict could create a rift in the White House. According to The Washington Post, not all officials like unconditional support for Israel.
According to the American publication, which cites sources in the White House, a split is brewing in the Joe Biden administration. The reason for this was the policy pursued by the American president regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Many simply do not like that Biden announced unconditional support for Israel amid the ongoing bombing of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
A rift has reportedly emerged between a group of younger administration officials and Biden's "senior aides" who have long been part of his team. “Youth” do not understand the US strategy in the Middle East, especially in reducing civilian casualties. However, the “old men” also say that Biden’s policy has left the United States without the ability to maneuver in this situation.
The meeting of officials (...) shows how Biden's approach to perhaps the biggest international crisis of his presidency is splitting a White House that prides itself on disciplined and cohesive work (...) the worsening situation in the Gaza Strip has shaken the administration more than any other issue, that arose during Biden's first three years as president
- writes the edition.
Meanwhile, the White House is in favor of continuing hostilities immediately after the expiration of the temporary truce announced on Friday. Earlier, White House spokesman Jake Sullivan, commenting on the bombing of the Gaza Strip, said that Israel has the “right to self-defense,” and the United States fully supports the actions of the army of the Jewish state.
