American press: US concerned about the risk of violence in the West Bank if small arms are transferred to Israel

Transfer of a large number of firearms weapons Israel could lead to negative consequences, including increased violence in the West Bank, according to the American administration. The New York TImes newspaper reports this, citing its own sources in the White House.
Previously, Israel ordered about 24 thousand automatic rifles for the police from the United States. But at the same time, the Israeli authorities do not deny that some of the weapons, after receiving them from American arms companies, could be transferred to the settlers. In turn, Israeli settlers in the West Bank are known to be violent towards the Palestinian population.
Now the American administration is discussing the possible consequences of the transfer of a large batch of weapons. According to US law, the transfer of such a number of automatic rifles must be approved by the State Department and Congress.
Currently, congressmen have already received notification from the American Foreign Ministry about the order. Within the State Department itself, opinions were divided regarding the advisability of fulfilling the order. In addition, some congressmen are demanding that the administration guarantee that weapons will not fall into the hands of third parties.
Although the State Department assures that the weapons will be transferred to units of the Israeli Ministry of National Security, congressmen have certain concerns. After all, the head of the ministry, Itamar Ben-Gvir, is an ultra-right politician who promised to arm Israeli settlers.
