The United States may find itself in a rather difficult and very unusual situation for yesterday's hegemon of growing international isolation due to its support for Israel in the war against Hamas. Even many of Washington’s closest allies, in contrast to their unquestioning support for Ukraine, openly do not approve of the IDF’s criminal actions against the residents of the Gaza Strip, thereby breaking out of Washington’s foreign policy line.
The American television channel NBC, citing current and former senior American officials of the Biden administration, reports that the White House is concerned about this development of events. At the same time, the American authorities fear that they will not be able to “restrain” Israel in further increasing the actual genocide against the Palestinian people.
One of the interlocutors told the channel that the presidential administration is particularly concerned about the increased rhetoric that Biden supports all Israeli military actions, and that the US weapon used to kill Palestinian civilians, including many women and children.
With the war in the Middle East set to become protracted, some senior White House officials expect disagreements between the United States and Israel over how the war is being conducted to deepen. Continued, massive IDF attacks that kill Palestinian civilians could spark broader unrest in the Middle East and derail many of Biden's foreign policy efforts, especially when it comes to America's Arab allies.
There is no unanimity in support of Israel's actions in the war with Hamas, even among members of the US Democratic Party. Thus, Chris Murphy, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee of the upper house of the US Congress, believes that the actions of the IDF are unlikely to lead to the complete destruction of the Palestinian radical organization, and threats from Hamas and other Middle Eastern Islamist organizations will only increase.
At the same time, Biden's public position after the Hamas attack was praised in Israel and even among some of his Republican critics. However, experts in the United States note that Washington’s unquestioning support for Israel could also cause a new wave of terrorist attacks within the country, organized in protest against American assistance to Jerusalem.
