On CES 2013 showed a Linux-gun for 17 000 dollars

The CES exhibition, held in Las Vegas, is traditionally considered to be the site for the demonstration of new electronic gadgets. There are new TVs, cameras, processors, tablets and much more. However, perhaps for the first time here they show a real gun. Not a simple rifle, but a rifle running Linux.
Texas startup Tracking Point, which specializes in high-tech military solutions, is now engaged in tuning high-tech traditional Magnums and Winchesters. At CES 2013, the company showed upgraded versions of the Winchester Magnum and Lapua Magnum rifles, equipped with an advanced computerized system, which in appearance resembles what was shown in the Terminator.
New computer system Precision Guided Firearm is a real high-tech kit for the hunter or the military. By omitting all the details, when turned on, the computer system allows not only to hit the target accurately, but also displays all data relating to the target, the bullet flight and many other parameters with which the bullet flight is from point A to point B.

On CES 2013 showed a Linux-gun for 17 000 dollars

The company said that they created not just an advanced sight for a gun, but modified a significant part of the gun systems, in particular, created a trigger system that activates the computer when the shooter puts his finger on the trigger of the gun, in addition, the system for assessing the ambient light and in the event that the gun establishes that the shot is fired in the evening or at night, the computer will enter night mode and switch to the night vision system of the target.

Speaking of a computer-guided system, it can also be compared with a target fighter capture system. so, the computer is able to determine the potential target itself, mark it with a point and help the shooter aim more accurately. The gun is equipped with a laser sight system, therefore the point from the beam is visible on the screen of the computer sight and the system understands that the object on which the point is located is the target of the shot. After the point is captured by the gun, the Linux computer calculates the speed of movement of the target, the speed of the bullet taking into account the wind, and also displays the distance to the target with a grid of compass coordinates.
The system developers say that despite the multi-functionality of the system, the computer is extremely easy to use and any shooter who previously held a gun with an optical sight in his hands can work with it. The system automatically creates a significant part of the information and adapts itself to the surrounding conditions.

The company says that their development is focused not only on beginning shooters, but also on experienced ones, as it allows them to fire in difficult environmental conditions, adjusting the shooting mode to specific conditions.
Of the additional options for high-tech rifles, you can highlight the presence of a built-in WiFi transmitter, as well as a separate iOS application that allows you to see everything that the gunner sees at a given moment in real time, as the system transmits a picture of the sight all data on a smartphone or tablet. If desired, the picture can even be recorded, so that later the video can be used as forensic evidence.
The Tracking Point company says that now a number of Pentagon divisions are testing a new development and possibly adopting it in the future.

The total cost of the Winchester Magnum is 17 000 dollars. This amount includes the gun itself, a computer sight, an application for the iPhone and iPad, as well as a number of accessories.

For a long time I was wondering and could not understand why they didn’t make such a weapon, because all the developments were about 20 years ago, and the rifle can be made fully automatic, the operator will only have to choose a target, and it will not need to be spent on expensive sniper training, at the current level of technology weapons with a gun mount guidance and with all equipment can fit in 10-15 kilograms. Maybe people who know can explain why these developments have gone into the mainstream of commerce?

I think that this is another step towards the creation of combat robotic systems, and as it is proposed, I completely agree with you.

Why did these bastards shoot so many animals, is it really impossible to make a video where the targets are terrorists? Oh yes, because terrorists are their allies, you can’t shoot at them.

      Cool "invention"!

A cool thing, only this deprives the hunt - its risk, the skills of the hunter, and indeed --- all these tales -type per kilometer with one bullet -6 moose failed. With this device --- they will take and believe. laughing But how could you swell after a hunt * beautifully * if you have nothing to tell or lie? crying

    Linux gun!
Probably, one should expect the appearance of such devices as a Windows-carbine, Solaris-machine gun, MS-DOS-gun and, of course, the ES-Kalashnikov (with a control unit in Kamaz)))).
And on the topic, 'the presence of a built-in WiFi transmitter'! This means that there is a "hole" through which malware can crawl. Like a virus or a trajan. And at some point, this gun will decide by itself where to direct the bullet.

Very interesting gun. Only for parquet done. It’s scary to take him into the forest, not like a war. It will become damp, hit, scratched ...
