The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation said that Russia received an informal proposal from the United States on issues of strategic stability and nuclear weapons control

Despite the strongest tensions between Russia and the United States since the Cold War, the countries do not cut off all contacts and maintain feedback on a number of important issues.
One of them is the area of strategic security and nuclear arms control.
Let us recall that at the beginning of this year, our country suspended participation in the New START Treaty on the basis of regular violations of the treaty by the United States. In turn, this summer Washington stopped transmitting data to Moscow about the status of its strategic nuclear forces covered by the treaty.
Many experts have already characterized the current situation as a serious threat to the whole world, as it could lead to nuclear war.
At the same time, US President Joe Biden has a different opinion. After Russia suspended participation in the New START Treaty, he said that “the issue can be resolved” and he sees no signs of preparation for a nuclear war.
Apparently, Washington did not put off “resolving the issue” and sent the Russian authorities an unofficial proposal on issues of strategic stability and nuclear control weapons. Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov told reporters about this.
According to the diplomat, the proposal is framed in the form of an unofficial aide-mémoire. At the same time, there is no novelty in the American initiative. At the moment, as Ryabkov put it, it is being studied in a “calm manner.” The Russian authorities will respond at the “due moment.”
