For the second day in a row, the German press writes about the “critical situation” with Western support for Ukraine
In recent weeks, the future prospects for military and financial assistance to Ukraine from the West have become increasingly questionable. This is the conclusion made by Bild. For the second day in a row, the German press writes about the “critical situation” with Western support for Ukraine.
According to the publication, one of the main dangers for Kyiv in terms of decreasing support from the West is the general fatigue of Americans and Europeans from the armed conflict. Although the situation has become, according to the German press, even more threatening for Kyiv, the West is gradually preparing to reduce, if not stop, assistance to Ukraine.
The second reason for the gradual weakening of interest in assistance to Ukraine is the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. Although the German press correctly writes that the counteroffensive is “less successful than we would like,” in reality it is simply a complete fiasco of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and their Western patrons.
Finally, the West has exhausted its reserves of weapons and military equipment, which it could transfer to Ukraine without risking its own security. Russia produces more ammunition than the West, despite sanctions, the publication notes.
The tendency towards a decrease in support for Ukraine is evidenced by the constant disputes between Kyiv and Poland over the fate of Ukrainian grain exports, the election results in Slovakia with the victory of the supposedly “pro-Russian” Robert Fico, and budget disagreements in the United States. Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said he believed the situation would soon return to negotiations.
Let us note that although Ukrainian leaders refuse negotiations, given the cessation of support from the West or even its large-scale reduction, they will have no other choice. Otherwise, there will be a risk of losing control over even more territories.
