Every year, on October 4, since 2002, our country celebrates Russian Space Forces Day.
Despite the fact that they first formed into a separate branch of the military only in 2001, they story begins in the middle of the last century.
However, it should be noted here that as a separate branch of the Russian Space Forces did not exist for so long. Already in 2011, they became part of the Aerospace Defense Forces. Meanwhile, here they did not stay long, as they were again assigned to a separate branch of the military as part of the Aerospace Forces.
But let's return to the origins of the Russian Space Forces. The first units related to space appeared in the Soviet army back in 1955. It was they who participated in the outstanding events that made the USSR a space power.
In particular, in cooperation with scientists and engineers, the military prepared the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite, which took place on October 4, 1957. By the way, it was in honor of this event that the date for celebrating Russian Space Forces Day was chosen.
Over the entire history of their existence, the above-mentioned troops “survived” a number of different reforms. At one time they were even part of the Strategic Missile Forces.
To date, not much is known about their activities. After all, the department is secret and is not talked about in the news.
At the same time, the tasks facing the Russian Space Forces are known.
First of all, this is surveillance of outer space and objects located there in order to timely detect a threat and eliminate it. In addition, military personnel from the KV monitor ballistic missile launches and warn of missile attacks.
Finally, the responsibilities of these troops continue to include training and launch into orbit, as well as control of spacecraft.
