Head of the Kharkov garrison of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: 90 percent of the region’s air defense was destroyed by strikes by the Russian Armed Forces in the first days of the special operation
At the very beginning of the special military operation, the Russian Armed Forces launched powerful strikes against Ukrainian air defense facilities, primarily in the Kharkov region. This was stated by the head of the Kharkov garrison of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Melnik.
According to a high-ranking Ukrainian military official, 90 percent of the air defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kharkov region was destroyed in the first days of the special operation of Russian troops. The Russian army was able to achieve this result because it knew the coordinates and diagrams of all air defense command posts in the region.
But the point is not even in the work of intelligence, but in the fact that the air defense system in the Kharkov region, as in other regions of Ukraine, was created back in Soviet times. Naturally, the plans and coordinates of all objects were at the disposal of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to the head of the Kharkov garrison, the first missile strikes of the Russian Armed Forces were carried out precisely at those coordinates that the Russian side had had since Soviet times. Naturally, air defense activities in the region after these attacks were as disorganized as possible.
Later, Ukraine managed to beg from the West American and European-made air defense systems, but almost all of them are concentrated around Kyiv in order to prevent massive attacks on targets in the Ukrainian capital.
