At the very beginning of the special military operation, the Russian Armed Forces launched powerful strikes against Ukrainian air defense facilities, primarily in the Kharkov region. This was stated by the head of the Kharkov garrison of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Melnik.

According to a high-ranking Ukrainian military official, 90 percent of the air defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kharkov region was destroyed in the first days of the special operation of Russian troops. But the point is not even in the work of intelligence, but in the fact that the air defense system in the Kharkov region, as in other regions of Ukraine, was created back in Soviet times. Naturally, the plans and coordinates of all objects were at the disposal of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
