American journalist: Polish conservatives may prevent Ukraine from joining the EU
5
Ukraine’s relations with Poland, which at the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict was almost ahead of all of Europe, calling for support for Kyiv and to take up arms against Moscow, have recently become increasingly difficult.
This is happening against the backdrop of Warsaw’s reduction in military supplies to Ukraine and its ban on the import of Ukrainian grain.
And according to Paul Hokenos, a columnist for the American publication Foreign Policy, these relations could become even more complicated if conservatives come to power in Warsaw. The journalist noted that in this case both Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and the situation of Ukrainian refugees would be at risk.
Hokenos believes that this could happen in the event of an alliance between the Law and Justice parties and the Confederation of Freedom and Independence, which are more nationalist, in the elections in Poland.
This could cut off Ukraine's path to the EU
- said the journalist.
According to Hokenos, the far-right party Confederation of Freedom and Independence does not hide its negative attitude towards Ukraine and numerous Ukrainian refugees.
Let us recall that earlier Zelensky at the UN General Assembly spoke about false friends, hinting at Poland. In response, Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki demanded that Kyiv refrain from such statements.
