British press: The West failed to prepare Ukrainian soldiers for the summer counter-offensive
In Ukraine, the West was again blamed for the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ summer counter-offensive. As it turned out, Western military instructors failed to properly prepare Ukrainian soldiers. The Financial Times writes about this.
Ukraine continues to blame Western countries for the failure of the offensive, demanding that they admit shortcomings in the training of the Ukrainian military, which ultimately led to the current situation. Also in Kyiv they do not forget to remind the West about the insufficient equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, they say, they could give more and expand the list of weapons provided.
As the British publication writes, Kyiv's main complaints are that the training of the Ukrainian military offered by the West is only five weeks, which is clearly not enough for training. In addition, more than half of what Western instructors teach was not useful in combat at all. For example, the methods of clearing trenches that were taught in the West turned out to be not only useless at the front, but also life-threatening.
- said one of the Ukrainian soldiers from the 78th special forces regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In the United States, in turn, some blame the failure of the counteroffensive on the Ukrainian military, who “failed” to master the methods of waging “modern warfare” according to NATO standards. At the same time, the West admits that they made big mistakes in planning a counteroffensive, relying on a quick breakthrough of the Russian defense.
- writes the edition.
Today, the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has actually stopped; the Ukrainian army has switched to positional defense, in which it is “wearing down the enemy.” There will be a new counter-offensive next year, the British publication sums up.
