Advisor to the head of the DPR: The Russian military deliberately hunted for the first destroyed British Challenger 2 tank
The emergence of the British tanks Challenger 2 on the line of combat contact led to the Russian military hunting them. Advisor to the head of the DPR Yan Gagin spoke about this.
British tanks were in the rear for a very long time along with the 82nd Air Assault Brigade, which is part of the strategic reserve of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. But after the brigade was transferred to the Zaporozhye direction, the Challenger 2 also got to the front line with it. And although these tanks did not attack Russian positions, being at a considerable distance from them, the Russian Armed Forces fighters hunted them.
Ours purposefully hunted for the first destroyed British tank; reconnaissance had previously identified all the places where it appeared and moved, after which it was ambushed. Despite the fact that the tank was traveling with an armored escort group, it was successfully “surrounded” by hitting it with a missile from the Kornet anti-tank system. The damaged tank was completely burned out, leaving only scrap metal.
- leads RIA News Gagin's words.
The defeat of the first British Challenger 2 tank became known on September 5; it was knocked out on the Rabotino-Verbovoye line, where the enemy concentrated significant forces from the strategic reserve. The UK acknowledged the loss of the tank, saying that this was the first confirmed defeat of the Challenger 2 in combat in almost 30 years. While the loss of the first tank was being discussed in London, the Russian military destroyed the second Challenger 2, and in the same place.
Previously, Britain refused to send Ukraine new tanks to replace the destroyed ones, and nothing has been heard about the second promised batch of 14 tanks.
