Congresswoman proposed reducing the US Secretary of Defense's salary to one dollar due to his “poor performance”
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin should cut his salary to $1 because he can't do his job. This was stated by Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who introduced a corresponding initiative for consideration by Congress.
Greene's proposal is formalized as an amendment to the draft US military budget. It has now been submitted to members of the US House of Representatives. Of course, it is unlikely that this initiative will be supported by a majority of members of the House of Representatives, but the very fact of its appearance is quite remarkable.
Greene believes that Pentagon chief Austin should be punished for “poor work” because his work was a complete failure. Austin allowed risks to US national security, which is unacceptable, the congresswoman believes.
The salary of the US Secretary of Defense is more than 220 thousand dollars a year. Lloyd Austin's total fortune was estimated at $7 million. But Austin, at least as is officially believed, earned most of this money before his appointment as head of the American military department. After leaving the army, he served on the board of Raytheon Technologies, one of the largest American defense industrial companies.
Let us remember that Austin is 70 years old and spent most of his adult life, from the early 1970s to 2016, in the armed forces, retiring as commander of the US Central Command and with the rank of general.
