Italian press: Pope's envoy goes to Beijing to silence the guns in Ukraine
It has become known that the Vatican's diplomatic envoy is leaving for the capital of China. Matteo Zuppi, as the Italian press writes, will hold negotiations with the second person in the Chinese state, Li Qiang.
As it turns out, the upcoming negotiations are connected with stopping the armed conflict in Ukraine.
Italian journalists write that Matteo Zupi’s mission, which was organized by Pope Francis, is related to “silencing the guns in Ukraine.” Let us remind you that the Vatican still considers Crimea, Sevastopol and four new regions of Russia to be the territory of Ukraine.
At the same time, Zuppi’s trip to Beijing is positioned as “the final stage of the papal peace mission.”
A noteworthy remark from the Italian publication La Repubblica:
Accordingly, we can unequivocally say that this “mission” is largely the mission of the collective West, and it is not so much about stopping the fighting, but about pushing China to put pressure on Russia.
Let us remind you that the main principle of “peace” from the West is the so-called “Zelensky formula”. Only this “formula” is a priori impossible to implement – for the simple reason that it does not take into account the interests of Russia.
