1. 6. The main identification mark identifies the aircraft belonging to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The main identification mark of airplanes is the FIVE-POINTED STAR of red color, bordered on the outer contour of white or aluminum color, and then the red stripes (Appendix 1).

7. Additional identification marks determine the aircraft belonging to the corresponding organization, society or military unit (unit). Additional identification marks of aircraft are side numbers, stripes, special inscriptions (“DOSAAF”), special images (RED CROSS).

8. By the time of validity, the identification marks are divided into permanent and temporary. Permanent identification marks include signs that are applied to the aircraft for the entire period of their flight operation. Temporary identification marks include signs that are applied to the aircraft for a specific period.

9. All tests of airplanes in the air, including pilot and production aircraft manufactured by the Ministry of Aviation Industry for the Armed Forces of the USSR and DOSAAF of the USSR, are carried out with the basic identification mark FIVE-STAR in accordance with these Regulations.

10. FIVE-POINT STAR identification mark is applied to military aircraft operating in the Ministry of Aviation Industry.

11. The location of the identification marks for new types of aircraft is determined by the designer of the aircraft in accordance with the requirements of this Regulation, considered by breadboard commissions and approved by the Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force.

12. The location and procedure for applying identification marks to unmanned aerial vehicles is the same as for aircraft.

13. Identification marks on aircraft should be clearly visible. Identification marks should be periodically tinted to maintain appropriate color.

14. Monitoring compliance with this Regulation is assigned to the commanders of aviation units of the USSR Armed Forces and the Chairman of the Central Committee of the USSR DOSAAF.

II. DESCRIPTION OF UNDERSTANDING SIGNS AND THE PROCEDURE OF THEIR APPLICATION ON AIRCRAFT.

1. The main five-pointed star identification mark is applied:

A) for monoplane planes - on the wings from below and above, as well as from two sides on the vertical tail (appendices 2-8 and 10);

B) for biplane aircraft - to the upper wings from above, to the lower wings from below and from two sides to the vertical tail (appendices 2 and 9);

B) on gliders - on wings from below and above, as well as from two sides to vertical plumage (Appendix 11);

D) for helicopters with a tail rotor - on the side walls of the cabin in its rear part and at the bottom of the cabin, on a helicopter of a pine scheme - on the tail unit (appendices 12, 13 and 14);

D) on tethered balloons - on the sides and top of the shell (Appendix 15);

16. When marking the FIVE-POINT STAR on the aircraft wing (above and below), the center of the star should be approximately in the middle of the chord of the wing. The distance from the center of the star to the end of the wing should be within 0,1-0,2 of the span of the wing, and the distance from the leading edge of the wing to the top of the star with the edging should be within 50-150 mm. The rays of the five-pointed star identification mark together with the edging should not go out to the aileron or slat.

17. On the vertical empennage of an aircraft with a low horizontal empennage, a FIVE-POINTED STAR is applied in the center of the total area of ​​the keel and rudder above the stabilizer, with a high horizontal empennage in the center of the keel below the stabilizer. On airplanes with double vertical plumage - FIVE-POINT STAR is applied on the outer sides of the vertical plumage. The star is applied to the vertical tail in such a way that its ends are at a distance of 50-150 mm from the edges of the keel fairing and rudder (Appendix 3).

18. The FIVE-POINT STAR sign when applied to aircraft should be as large as possible. The exception is airplanes with protective coloring - camouflage, for which the star is chosen one standard size smaller than for normally painted airplanes.

19. The following typical sizes of the five-pointed star identification mark are set: 300, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 1800, 2000-2500, 2700 and 3000 mm. The width of the border depends on the size of the star and is indicated in the table:

20. On tethered balloons, the FIVE-POINT STAR sign is applied without fringing. The size of the star (the diameter of the circumscribed circle) is two meters (Appendix 15).

21. The aircraft side number is indicated by a two-digit number and is applied to the side surfaces of the fuselage or the vertical tail of the aircraft on both sides. On heavy bombers, the number is applied only to the vertical plumage above the star. On front-line bombers, the number is applied on board the fuselage and on the vertical tail above the star. For all other aircraft, the number is applied on board the fuselage: for aircraft with an elongated bow - in front of the wing, with a shortened bow - in the back of the wing (annexes 3 and 8).

C) The numbers on board the fuselage should fit into a conditional rectangle and be applied, if possible, on the side projection of the fuselage axis in a place where they are better visible, taking into account the requirements of Art. 22 of these Regulations;

D) The numbers of the aircraft side number on the vertical empennage of a heavy bomber should be 400 mm high, and on the vertical empennage of a front bomber, it should be 400 mm high.

24. On airplanes of the KGB Border Troops under the Council of Ministers of the USSR, in addition to the main identification mark, the FIVE-POINT STAR and the tail number, strips of 250 mm wide are additionally applied:

A) On airplanes - on the rudder parallel to the ribs on two sides below the star and on the elevator parallel to the spar from above and below (Appendix 9);

B) For helicopters - on the side walls of the cabin:

- with a tail rotor - 1500 mm long at a distance of 100-150 mm in the direction of the tail behind the five-pointed star identification mark (Appendix 12);

- with a pine propeller - 1500 mm long at a distance of 400-450 mm in the direction of the bow from the tail boom (Appendix 13).

Stripes of white color are applied against a dark background, red color against a light background.

25. Additional identification marks for aircraft DOSAAF USSR are the inscription "DOSAAF" and the tail number. The inscription "DOSAAF" is applied:

A) For airplanes and gliders - on the sides of the fuselage in front of the cockpit (Appendix 16);

B) For helicopters - on the sides of the front of the cockpit;

C) On tethered balloons - on the side surfaces of the shell behind the FIVE-POINT STAR sign in the direction of the rear hemisphere (Appendix 15).
