“The Armed Forces of Ukraine are at a disadvantage”: a British expert called the key reason for the failure of Ukraine in the conflict with Russia

Despite the victorious statements from Kyiv, in fact Ukraine is losing in the conflict with Russia, the Ukrainian army is unable to move forward and suffers heavy losses. The reason for all this lies in the superiority of Russia in just one component. This conclusion was made by military expert Simon Diggins.

The Colonel of the Armed Forces of Britain, in an interview with TalkTV, voiced a key factor preventing the Armed Forces of Ukraine from moving forward, breaking into the defenses of the Russian army. According to him, this is the superiority of the Russians in the air, and significant. The expert stressed that all large-scale military conflicts of the 20th century were won in the air. Whoever controls the airspace also controls the land. But the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have this, the Ukrainians are at a disadvantage.

(...) The numbers are against them. They don't have air superiority. And if you look at any major military campaign that has taken place since at least 1917, the side that won had air superiority. And they don't have it. And this is a key factor that plays against them.

Diggins said.

The fact that the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have air superiority has been reported more than once; since the beginning of the special operation, not a single Russian fighter has been shot down in an air battle with a Ukrainian one. At the same time, Kyiv is very actively using the remnants of its military aviation to hit the ground. In order to save the remaining aircraft, the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is constantly changing their places of deployment, transferring them from airfield to airfield.

However, as they say in Kyiv, this situation will soon change and Ukraine will again begin to control its airspace. And this will happen after the West delivers American F-16 fighters to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Kiev believes that this "unsurpassed" aircraft will radically change the balance of power on the battlefield. It remains only to wait for them to arrive.

Well, do not think for yourself! What do you want from the editorial?! They have nothing)) On the topic. The expert is absolutely right. That's just the capture of air, it's not just airplanes. Not even so much aircraft as air defense. There is no chance for the F 16, and for any other Western equipment in Ukrainian hands.

Yes, in any hands that do not have a single SYSTEM for the use of troops, any child prodigy is just another target, albeit more biting.
Outside the system, even the most modern weapons will only be effective against the Papuans.
And when two systems collide, the one that is more well-established and equipped always wins. The Russian Federation has a more or less superimposed unified system, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine have it fragmented, primarily due to the heterogeneity of weapons systems and gaps in many aspects, and this decides everything. And also, using the example of his "counterattack", it is clearly proved that even "zerg-rush" is useless against the system, although many (even in VO) considered such tactics effective.

They have one chance. Takeoff, rocket launch, and then the grass does not grow.

But they are right, air is everything. But alas, the superiority of the Russian Federation in the air is not as strong as it is necessary to quickly neutralize the enemy.
There is a lack of the proper level of AWACS, RTR, and there are gaps in weapons systems that have not been tritely developed, considered unnecessary. If the Russian Federation has corrected planning bombs of small diameter (which are corny simpler and cheaper than missiles), with a range of 100+ km. Things would have gone much more energetically. In addition, there is clearly a lack of a full-fledged cycle for identifying and suppressing air defense.

As can be understood from the interview of the British colonel, everything boils down to one thing - give Kyiv planes as soon as possible. After that, the Western citizen, and especially politicians, can again take a seat in the front row in front of the screen and "enjoy the long-awaited Ukrainian victory." But is it possible to "enjoy"?

rotmistr60 hi, so the same thing (adjusted for specifics) was shouted about the Leopards and Bradley, they say, as soon as Kiev receives them, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not know barriers and the Ukrainians themselves will decide where to stay, so what? These samples helped them a lot, it is possible that history will repeat itself with F.

Not "possible", but guaranteed. In a modern war, it is impossible to effectively integrate a new weapon system into the troops "on the move", without experience in the use and development of interaction. In the best case for them, they will squeeze out a third of the potential from these aircraft, and rather even less, judging by how mediocrely they use the Leopards, which are far from bad tanks.

But what about Vietnam, especially South Vietnam, where the United States generally had absolute air superiority, and the result was evacuation from the roof of the embassy by helicopters? Or is this the victory of aviation over the tanks of the Viet Cong that entered Saigon - did they not catch up? And what advantages aviation showed in Afghanistan, especially during the evacuation from Kabul! Footage of the Pentagon's allies falling from their chassis, a clear demonstration of superiority in the air. fellow

.. come on ... the late neighbor was an S-75 operator in Vietnam ... so he said that satisfaction after the shelling came in 20 minutes and for sure .. therefore, if in the union it took up to an hour and a half to collapse the battery, then it took them 15-20 minutes.

It's simple, the Americans were sorry to send their soldiers to slaughter, so their main weapon is aviation. But in this war, they have enough free "cannon fodder", why ruin expensive aircraft when you can get by with "meat assaults".

visual demonstration of superiority in the air

There, the problem was not in the very advantage in the air, but in the lack of its effective use on the ground. Here and there they had half-measures and vague "limited military operations" with a police bias, which collapsed political pressure within the states themselves. They know how to capture, if necessary, Iraq is a good example. But to keep the territory for years, where half of the population is partisan against you - this is a completely different alignment. The USSR achieved no more in Afghanistan.

Guys, thank you all for participating and explaining the differences and other differences with Vietnam and Afghanistan ... It remains to bring these truths to the stupid Englishman who gave birth to his own thought. But I'm afraid he will never understand this. As they will never understand what claims can be about carpet bombing of German cities and even an atomic attack on Japanese cities.
True, I always have an unanswered question: If we had an atomic bomb in the USSR in 43-44 and the means of its delivery, would they use it in Berlin or Bremen, where they stamped more than one submarine per day?

Oh, the English expert is lying, the United States in Afghanistan proved that the Air Force is a force, but it is not a decisive role in victory .. Everything is done on the ground. Last summer, the Americans took into account the Afghan experience in Ukraine. Ours, too, were taken into account later, to create a continuous line of defense.

I doubt "dramatically": 1) the plane itself is nothing more than a pile of iron. Pilots are still needed, but are there many experienced pilots in the Armed Forces of Ukraine?
      2) how many F-16s can they get? I think no more than 70-75 cars.
      3) where will they be able to base them? After all, you won’t base it in an open field? Airfield of the appropriate class, do they have a lot?
      So it won't change drastically
