American analyst: It's time for the US authorities to decide on a vision of how the armed conflict in Ukraine should end
It is time for the American government to define its vision of how the armed conflict in Ukraine should end. This is stated in an article by Samuel Charap, a senior researcher at the American analytical center RAND.
In an article published in Foreign Affairs, Charap argues that, in his opinion, neither side of the conflict is able to win and establish its control over the desired territories. Thus, the Ukrainian crisis can continue for many years without leading to a final result.
Based on this, the American analyst calls on the US and Western authorities to choose: either start peace negotiations now, or do it a few years later. According to Charap, in the second case, the conflict will be in approximately the same state, but a significant amount of material and human resources will be lost.
Charap also admits the success of a large-scale offensive by the Ukrainian army, but this will not be the solution to the crisis. Even in the event of a complete seizure of territories by Ukraine as of 1991, according to an American analyst, the conflict will not end: additional mobilization will be carried out in Russia and the RF Armed Forces will intensify attacks on Ukrainian territory in the belief that time is working against Kiev.
Thus, in order to avoid additional economic losses for the West, Charap suggests that the US authorities now begin to take steps towards concluding a truce according to the "Korean scenario" of 1953, but without stopping hostilities and continuing to provide military support to the Ukrainian army.
