The Pentagon signed a contract with SpaceX for the purchase of Starlink satellite terminals for Ukraine

The United States will provide Ukraine with satellite communications and the Internet, the Pentagon has signed a contract for the supply of Starlink satellite terminals to Kyiv. The agreement was signed with Elon Musk's SpaceX.

The US Department of Defense has signed a contract with SpaceX for the supply and maintenance of Starlink satellite terminals in Ukraine. The funds that are supposed to be spent on the purchase of terminals will be taken from a special fund created to meet the long-term needs of Ukraine, i.e. from the money allocated by the US Congress for the purchase of weapons for Kyiv.

Satellite communications represent a vital layer in Ukraine's overall communications network, and the ministry has awarded a contract with Starlink for related services.

the Pentagon said in a statement.

It is worth noting that satellite communications play a very important role in the management of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Starlink terminals provided it. The Pentagon highly appreciated the role of Elon Musk's terminals. It is known that from the beginning of hostilities until the end of last year, Kyiv received about 22 Starlink terminals. In December, Musk announced the delivery of another 10 terminals to Kyiv with funds allocated by the European Union. The delivery was supposed to take place at the beginning of this year, but there is no information whether it was carried out.

In February 2023, SpaceX limited the availability of Starlink communications for the Ukrainian military, in particular, Ukrainian drones, they were simply disconnected from the Starlink system. Thus, the American company "created conditions" so that Starlink satellite communications would not be used as an "offensive weapons".

      well, let's know not a bad result when the satellites are intact and they are not destroyed!

        so it can be easier to destroy towers than satellites ..

          Starlink does not have towers, as such, there is a mobile terminal that fits in the trunk of a car.

            The architecture of the Starlink system consists of three main components: a constellation of satellites in low orbits, a network of ground stations, and user terminals.

            Principle of operation:
            - the signal from the computer through the router goes to the antenna;
            - from the antenna, the data is transmitted to the satellite, where it is processed and transmitted as a signal to the nearest monitoring station on Earth;
            - the ground router exchanges data with the broadband Internet and transmits the result to the satellite;
            - from it the data goes to the user's plate and through the modem gets to the PC.

            The Starlink Internet Connection Kit includes:
            - Starlink motorized satellite antenna with electronic phased array, temperature range from -30°C to +50°C, capture angle - 100°, power consumption 50-75 W;
            - IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi router based on Wi-Fi 5 chipset, dual-band radio - 3 x 3 MIMO, WPA2 security class, transmission range up to 185 m²;
            - Power Supply;
            - Ethernet adapter;
            - Starlink cable (22,9 meters);
            - electric cable (1,8 meters);
            - Antenna mounting bracket.

            For example, Starlink in Russia will work slowly, because. the nearest terrestrial repeater is located in Poland.

            Therefore, these very ground stations are the notorious towers mentioned above, which north 2 mentioned above.

              it’s possible, and so the current they are not one, not two, but there are many of them, it is possible in NATO countries to destroy data centers, data centers, etc., etc., you can satellites over the territory, as it were, an atmospheric nuclear explosion) the choice is great, but for some reason they don’t do it))))))

              Already somewhat outdated, now satellites can transmit data to other satellites with lasers. Which makes it possible to use ground stations anywhere in the world to communicate with the regular Internet

          Terminals are not an option. But the constellation of satellites is necessary. The purchase is carried out by the military department for military purposes, so this is a legitimate goal. The same terminals will be in drones that will fly wherever they are. So who is not a party to the conflict here? Shoot down part of the network of these satellites. They will squeak something else to bring down and so on until they learn to speak.
          On the other hand, ours have learned not to badly aim at these user terminals.

            With a constellation of satellites, it will probably not be easy, or maybe just the other way around.
            Difficult, Musk intends to place about 42 satellites in orbit.
            It's easy, because it's easier to destroy them, in view of the not very great distance from the Earth.

              Musk is just launching satellites much faster than we can make anti-space rockets. And the orbits of the Musk satellites are such that there the debris will fall into the atmosphere very quickly, so do not pollute. It will also simply be much more expensive to shoot down than it is to launch. Not to mention that the Pentagon can compensate for everything that was shot down.

              Well, to beat Terminals is generally insanity, they are too cheap even to be slammed with cast iron or unguided shells.

        Yes, and let's be honest, he deserves to be there, unlike our "respectable" billionaires and various residents of Rublyovka. He did very, very much for his country (and in some places for humanity). Take the same SpaceX. The other day, the Falcon 9 launch vehicle made 228 launches (200 was in January of this year, just to understand the launch activity), simultaneously making the 200th accident-free launch in a row! The last time the rocket lost its payload was during a fire on the launch pad in September 2016, and the last accident in flight was recorded in June 2015. Thus, the Falcon 9 can be safely called the most reliable operating launch vehicle in the world! It is used by both NASA and the military (yes, if anyone did not know, NASA is a purely civilian organization, it does not deal with military launches), other companies.
        Can at least one of our "respectable" billionaire boast of something like that? Moreover, after all, Musk used the developments of NASA and other companies, poached engineers, and took advantage of this. Ours seized unique productions, but they fell in love with everything and plundered. And now, in a difficult time for the country, they continue to trade with those who supply weapons to kill our soldiers, and at the same time send children and all the loot to these same countries.

      That's all the lines. Strangely, we are waging war, and the degree (as they like to write in the press) is being raised in the USA. Isn't it time for us to raise the degree to a boil. Start shooting down and jamming satellites, at least a couple. ours means it's time to start a war for an adult.

      Apparently, all smart, but inconvenient, specialists left or left, only "effective" managers remained, since the system has not yet been hacked and cannot create problems for this type of communication. It's a pity!

      By yourself. Everything was clear there when they showed "the latest low-orbit spy satellite" at a press conference at the Pentagon. Guess. Which?
