Tracking Point - high technology in sniping
TrackingPoint has developed a sniper complex that will minimize shooter errors. With this smart electronic system even a novice can hit the target.
The system is very easy to use. Before you open fire, the shooter marks the target by pressing a button on the rifle trigger guard (the tag can be removed and put again).
After pressing the trigger the shot will not happen instantly. The system will send a bullet at the target at the most appropriate time, when the crosshairs match perfectly with the mark.
The sniper will also be able to shoot at the moment when the crosshair changes color to red.
The developers claim that during the shooting not only the distance to the target, but also the direction and speed of the wind is taken into account.
According to preliminary data, the company TrackingPoint, which is located in Austin, Texas, plans to produce three models of rifles equipped with ballistic computers at the following prices:
- XS1 - tactical rifle chambered for .338 Lapua Magnum for $ 20 000
- XS2 - lightweight version XS1, chambered for .300 Win. Mag. priced at $ 17 500
- XS3 - hunting version XS2, chambered for .300 Win. Mag. priced at $ 15 000
Already possible to pre-order all three types of rifles. Prepayment - 25%. Deliveries weapons planned for spring 2013 of the year.
The Internet leaked information that the rifles themselves will produce a well-known company Surgeon Rifles. The well-established company Krieger Barrels will manufacture the trunks.
Barrel length will be 27 "(XS1), 24" (XS2) and 22 "(XS3). rifles will feature scopes variable multiplicity 6-30x (for XS2 and XS3) and 6-35x (for XS1). Together with sniper complex 200 cartridges will be included.
TrackingPoint claims that the ballistic computer guarantees accuracy at distances up to 1200 yards for XS1, 1000 yards for XS2 and 750 yards for XS3.
According to the manufacturer: “Optics constantly monitors the target and holds the mark, even if it leaves the field of view. The sight automatically adjusts to the desired distance and other ballistic variables. ”
And finally, they say that the sniper complex will be equipped with a wireless connection (presumably Bluetooth). It is planned to develop an application for smartphones that will be able to record everything that you see through the scope of the sight.
Some enthusiasts of small business with great irony embraced the new development of the company TrackingPoint and questioned the reliability of this invention.
The gun community has many questions about the new TrackingPoint product, for example:
• How does the system work with a moving target?
• How long do batteries last?
• How much will this complex weigh?
• if the ballistic computer fails, will it be possible to shoot like a regular rifle?
And these questions continue to multiply.
Despite the expressed criticism, the community is following with interest the latest news about the new product.
The product's release was announced on January 2013.
