India plans to complete the development of a promising tank for 5-7 years

2
The Chief Controller for Armaments and Engineering Systems of the Organization for Defense Research and Development (DRDO) of the Ministry of Defense of India S. Sundares announced the details of the specification of the prospective MBT developed under the FMBT (Future Main Battle Tank) program.

The FMBT tank is designed to replace the MBT T-72 NE India after 2020 year. It is planned that a prototype FMBT will be created within 5-7 years. During the development, a modular architecture will be used, which will allow for the rapid modernization of the MBT when new technologies appear.

The weight of the FMBT will be about 50 tons (for comparison: the weight of the developed Arjun Mk.2 is 62 tons). MBT will be equipped with an improved power-transmission engine type Powerpack, designated Bharat. Engine size FMBT with 1500 hp will make two-thirds of the size of the Arjun Mk.1 power plant, the power of which is 1400 hp The first prototype of the national engine will be ready by 2016. To fine-tune the engine tank A national team of developers was formed, which included representatives of the customer, industry and DRDO. Foreign consultants will be involved in the work. The design of the tank's transmission has already begun. It is planned to widely use compact electronic equipment, which occupies a small space.

Simultaneously with the development of FMBT, a new version of the Arjun MBT, Arjun Mk.2, is being created. In total, the current design of the Arjun tank Mk.1 is planned to include 93 modifications, including equipping it with an improved anti-aircraft machine gun, as well as a missile system to attack ground targets at long range and protect against attack helicopters.

Panoramic sight with night vision for the tank commander will be equipped with an automatic target tracking system, which will increase the efficiency of target search at night and the accuracy of hitting moving objects.

Dynamic protection will be made in the form of metal elements placed throughout the whole MBT housing. The negative point of equipping the tank with dynamic protection is an increase in its weight by 1,5 t, however, this will protect the vehicle from attacks from above and from the sides. The protection of the Arkun Mk.2 MBT against missiles and jet grenades will also be strengthened.

At the moment, the Indian Army plans to acquire the 124 of the Arjun tank Mk.2. The production of MBT will be carried out at the heavy engineering plant (HVF) in Avadi.

Delivery will be completed in two stages. At the first stage, the 45 MBT Arjun Mk.2 will be transferred to the NE of India with 56 modifications made, including equipping the commander with a missile system and a panoramic sight. At the second stage, the remaining 79 MBT will be delivered, on which all the planned modifications will be implemented. The first 30 tanks are planned to be delivered in 2013-2014. The total cost of the 124 OBT Arjun Mk.2 is estimated at 50 billion rupees (more than 1 billion dollars).

They don’t fit into 50 tons. And what good is 1500 horses with such a ridiculous mass. Will he push the enemy with speed?

But the Chinese do mountain tanks. And where are the mountains in China?
