Russian scientists have presented unique projects for the Ministry of Defense
According to the ARMS-TASS correspondent, Head of the Defense Solutions Bureau Research Center (SIC BOR) of the Russian Defense Ministry Anton Tyurin, many of the proposed developments are of great interest to the armed forces. According to him, scientists from almost all regions of Russia show a serious interest in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and offer truly unique projects.
So, in particular, the Institute of software systems to them. A.K. Aylamazyan (ISA RAS), RSC Skif CJSC and RosInternet Technologies CJSC presented to the jury the draft “Scenarios and algorithms for using computer vision systems in the interests of the Armed Forces”. The list of possible scenarios includes the search for targets and regions on aerospace images; precision guidance, tracking and prediction of target behavior; aircraft navigation, alternative to GPS / GLONASS.
The Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Russian Academy of Sciences, in turn, presented the project "Development of technology for producing nanostructured alloy with shape memory." The uniqueness of these materials lies in the fact that they have the ability to restore the original shape specified during manufacture: after plastic deformation, during heating or in the process of reducing the load.
Scientists from the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (NRU ITMO) submitted 6 projects for review by the competition committee of the Ministry of Defense. The project "Solar batteries based on metamaterials" caused the greatest interest. In a conventional solar battery, part of the light is reflected and goes into space. The materials used in the new development allow to reduce the refractive index and reflection of the rays, thus significantly increasing the efficiency.
According to the vice-rector for innovation work at ITMO NRU Nikolai Toivonen, the first All-Russian competition of research works conducted by the Ministry of Defense has greatly increased the interest of young people and various research groups in the development of the Armed Forces of Russia. This was greatly facilitated by the meeting of scientists ITU ITMO with representatives of SIC "BOR", held in November 2012.
As reported earlier by ARMS-TASS Agency, at the beginning of October, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the start of the 1-th All-Russian competition of research works for the Armed Forces. The main goal is to attract the intellectual elite of the country, regardless of age, to the development of advanced technologies aimed at strengthening the state’s defense capability.
The competition program includes five main areas: information and telecommunication systems, promising types of weapons, military and special equipment, transport and space systems, life sciences, energy efficiency.
Students, graduates and postgraduates of universities, as well as scientific, innovative or production teams capable of solving large-scale scientific and technical problems can become participants in the competition.
The authors of the projects that are of interest to the Ministry of Defense will have the opportunity to realize their ideas with the financial support of the military department. Also, the winners and prize winners may be invited to take part in the implementation of projects as part of scientific groups, or even lead such work. In addition, regardless of the place occupied, bidders may be made offers of employment in specialized units of the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
