Pyongyang vows tough response to joint US-South Korea drills
The United States and the Republic of Korea are conducting large-scale naval maneuvers. The DPRK is very nervous about the cooperation between Washington and Seoul in the defense sphere, so Pyongyang promised a tough response to the joint exercises of the United States and South Korea.
This was reported by the North Korean Central News Agency of Korea (KCNA).
- this is the title of the material of the agency journalists.
They note that the joint US-South Korean "war hysteria", as the DPRK called the Freedom Shield exercises, began on March 13 and lasted for 11 days. Then from March 20 aviation two countries held a 5-day air and naval exercise "Sanryong" in the Yellow Sea. And on March 26, a 4-day ground phase of the exercises took place. Starting next week, another naval exercise in the Sea of Japan will begin, in which the US will use, among other forces, the Nimitz aircraft carrier. In addition to Washington and Seoul, Tokyo will also join them.
The DPRK regards the joint maneuvers of the United States and South Korea as a provocation directed against Pyongyang, so they threaten their allies with an "unprecedented response", hinting at the possible use of weapons mass destruction.
- the agency says.
North Korean journalists argue that Pyongyang will not hesitate to use this last argument if the US and its allies show extreme aggression and move to active actions against the DPRK. To avoid this, Washington is advised to behave prudently and with restraint.
