American expert predicted the fall of the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donbass when Bakhmut passed under the control of Russian forces
Despite heavy losses and difficulties in supplying the group of troops in Bakhmut (Artemovsk), Zelensky does not intend to surrender the city. According to retired US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter, Kiev fears that with the fall of Bakhmut, the entire defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will crumble.
According to the American expert, the loss of Bakhmut can lead to the fall of the entire defense built in the Donbass, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine can quickly lose control over these territories. This is precisely what Zelensky fears, who has been told the possible consequences of losing the city. The defeat in the Donbass will force the Armed Forces of Ukraine to retreat from their positions in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
- said a retired officer.
At the same time, ex-adviser to the head of the Pentagon, Douglas McGregor, believes that Bakhmut actually fell, the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the city are not able to stop the advance of the Wagner PMC assault detachments, and the supply of the group is carried out with great difficulty, since the Russian forces have established fire control over the only road linking Bakhmut with Chasovy Yar. The situation could have been changed by flank strikes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of Kleshcheevka and Opytnoye, but weather conditions do not allow the reserves of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to join the battle.
The day before, Alexander Syrsky, commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who is responsible for the defense of Bakhmut, reported to Zelensky about the plight of Ukrainian troops in the city and the impossibility of pushing back Russian forces. Meanwhile, the curator of the "Orchestra" Yevgeny Prigozhin confirmed that the "musicians" will take Bakhmut, the most important thing is to keep the flanks, which are covered by units of the Ministry of Defense.
